* LateCharacterSyndrome: Somewhat averted with Apan. She's the last playable character to join, halfway through the storyline, but she also gains EXP ''much'' quicker than anyone else. This makes putting her on par with the others not much of hassle.

* SpiritualSuccessor: To 1989's ''VideoGame/LegacyOfTheWizard'', another game about a BadassFamily, each with their own abilities, who delve into a dungeon beneath their log cabin in the woods to seal an awakening evil they're tasked with containing.

* TheReveal: The third deity, Adri-Savara, reveals [[spoiler: Ou is a SufficientlyAdvancedAlien, his mountain was a spaceship, and his curse is the manifestation of his revenge towards his spurned lover and [[ItsAllAboutMe his own child who took attention away from him.]]]]

* AnnoyingArchers: Archer goblins and other monsters that can shoot at the Bergsons are this. Linda is this back at them.

* TheLostLenore: Uncle Ben's wife Sheila died years before the story began. She had left because of Ben's alcoholism and because of her death, Ben never got to meet his son Joey.

* OurGoblinsAreDifferent: The goblins are almost as tall as a man, and their main difference appears to lie in their grey skin. Their warriors also seem to specialise in crossbows.

* SuperMode: Each character has a unique Guardian Rage state that temporarily enhances them in some way. This ranges from John gaining increased durability to Lucy transforming into a fire elemental whose basic attack becomes a massive laser beam.

More specifically relevant to the story in-game is the destiny to sacrifice a newborn to the mountain god to prevent the end of the world. The Bergsons reject this and instead find a different way to defeat the god once and for all.

* DisposableWoman: Pre-story, Ben had a wife named Sheila. Through various cutscenes, it is revealed that she left him due to his alcoholism. In the first act, Ben writes many letters to Sheila, hoping she can help them fight the Corruption. The one who responds to the letters is Joey, their adult son, who was also unknown to Ben until he shows up at their door. They now bond over the lost time with Sheila. Ben has many lines throughout the rest of the game wishing he were better to her. Sheila is completely undeveloped as a person and only serves as a reason for Joey's existence and Ben's will to better himself.
