From IGA's interview: "This [Chronicles] is the very first "remake version" from the old CASTLEVANIA series." In other words, it looks like he considers Vampire Killer, Haunted Castle, Super Castlevania IV, and the X68000 game all to be alternate tellings of the events of the original Castlevania, not 'remakes' per se.

Bilingual Bonus is when a message is hidden in a foreign language. Being that this was only released in Japan, a native player wouldn't find anything extra from characters speaking their own language.

Difficulty Spike became a YMMV trope

* DifficultySpike: Stage 7 starts off with an infinite fleet of eagles carrying Fleamen, and you can only take 4 hits before you die (which you don't experience in the NES original until you hit Stage 13). And ''then'', there's those hard-to-avoid bubble enemies and the statues that shoot arrows at you...
