Seeing as this movie was officially canceled, I've added more past-tense language to this entry.

* DevelopmentHell: Two words: ''Ice Adolescence''. Initially announced for a 2019 reveal, that year came and went without any word about it and the only other update was a short teaser posted to Twitter on 26 November 2020. The movie has been taken off [=MAPPA=]'s "Coming Soon" section on their website and delayed until further notice possibly because the studio has so many other works they're involved in. Despite this, Mitsurou Kubo has said that the movie is in development but there's no word on when further news will be announced. [[https://twitter.com/yurionice_PR/status/1781155766172565922 On April 19, 2024]], MAPPA announced that the movie was canceled, citing various circumstances as the reason.

YMMV trope

* IKnewIt:
** The fandom’s reaction in Episode 10 when [[spoiler: Yuri and Victor exchange engagement rings]], since the preview in Episode 9 had already hinted at it with [[spoiler: the words “something round and golden”]].
** Almost no one was surprised when the audience learns that Victor really ''was'' flirting with Yuri as opposed to being TheTease in the early episodes. The only thing they debated on was the reason ''why''.
** When the preview for Episode 8 showed Makkachin drooling over a pile of steamed buns, a fair share of fans weren't surprised when [[spoiler: Episode 8 reveals that Makkachin eats them and gets sick]].

Has nothing to do with explicit decisions where art was valued over profit.

* DoingItForTheArt: The figure skating scenes; the fact that the team behind the anime was willing to fully animate the skaters' programs without resorting to stills or [[TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects CGI models of the characters]], even if it sometimes resulted in OffModel shots in the later episodes, is pretty commendable. It's taken further on the DVD/Blu-ray releases, where [[EnhancedOnDVD the animation is improved]] and some crowd reaction shots are replaced with more skating footage. Director Sayo Yamamoto has said that she'd wanted to make an anime about figure skating for a while, but had trouble finding a studio who would be willing to animate it (especially considering the differences ''Yuri!!! on Ice'' has from most other sports anime, such as focusing on adult athletes and having many non-Japanese characters).

Noteworthy in that part of Yuri's arc involves becoming ''more'' InTouchWithHisFeminineSide through the Eros program with a costume that has been transcending gender boundaries even when Victor originally wore it.

Relationship Voice Actor is now a redirect to other tropes.

* RelationshipVoiceActor:
** Both Yuris were [[Manga/BlastOfTempest best friends in another world]], fighting against Victor to avenge a girl they were both in love with. Although they switched personalities here, with the Japanese Yuri being the violent one, and the Russian Yuri being the soft-spoken one...
*** They were also on the [[Anime/HighSpeedFreeStartingDays same swim team]], struggling to figure out how to swim in a medley relay together.
*** [[Manga/YouAndMe They were another pair of]] ChildhoodFriends, [[Manga/YouAndMe albeit in a normal high school setting]], and in that life Yurio ''doted'' on Yuri, with Yuri's dorky traits taken up to eleven.
** Speaking about swim teams, in the English dub, it's Yuri and Victor [[Anime/{{Free}} who were in the same team]], and were also bunkmates with a SenpaiKohai relationship.
** Yuri, Phichit, and Victor [[VisualNovel/PrinceOfStrideAlternative participated in relay racing]]. And there, Yuri still continues to be Victor's fan.
** Only in the English dub, but Kenjirou, Yuri, and Otabek are [[Manga/AttackOnTitan close friends in a world ravaged by Titans]], with Michele as their commanding officer.
** Though their characters don't all meet or talk in either series, Yuko, Phichit, Yakov and Jean-Jacques Leroy's seiyuus were all in the recently finished ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesXY'' (Eureka/Bonnie, Alan/Alain, Fleur-de-lys/Lysandre and Dent/Cilan).
** Yuri and J.J. were antagonized best friends in ''LightNovel/{{Durarara}}''. The Nishigori husband and wife were there, too.
** Victor, Phichit, Georgi, Takeshi and Otabek previously [[Manga/KurokosBasketball played basketball, albeit on different teams]].
*** Additionally, Otabek also [[Manga/{{Haikyuu}} played volleyball, with Yurio, Kenjiro, and Emil as teammates]] while Michele and Minako are alumni of their school. Furthermore, Yuri, Seung-gil and J.J. are players from rival schools.
*** Also, J.J., Christophe, Victor, Otabek, Emil, Yuri, Takeshi previously [[Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis played tennis while in different teams]], with Otabek, Takeshi and Emil as teammates in Shitenhouji and J.J. and Christophe as two of the Top 10 high schoolers in the U-17 camp.
** Victor, J.J. and Takeshi once worked together in [[Manga/BungoStrayDogs an underground mafia organization]]. Georgi and Phichit are also in it - the latter, in particular, once being under J.J.'s tutelage.
*** Things happened, and now J.J. is working with another group, of which Otabek and Yuri are members.
** Otabek and Yuri are [[Manga/{{Nanbaka}} prisoners in another world]], with the former handling fire and the latter just wanting to be a ninja all along.
** Victor, Phichit and Christophe were [[HistoricalDomainCharacter Historical-Domain Characters]] in [[VideoGame/BakumatsuRock an alternate rock musical version of Japanese history]].
*** Victor even [[https://youtu.be/5yMeW2Vnm90 sang]] [[https://youtu.be/qAFuUBZWunc duets]] with both of them!
** [[Manga/HunterXHunter Yuko is an assassin and Yurio is a chimera ant]].
** Victor and Michele were [[Manga/YonaOfTheDawn loyal soldiers and companions of a red-haired princess]], and were BashBrothers to boot.
*** In the English dub, [[Creator/MonicaRial Mila]] is said red-haired princess, with Yuri, Phichit, Christophe and Celestino as her companions. Additionally, Yurio is Mila's traitorous cousin, and Victor is a prophet who lives like a hermit.
** Michele and Otabek are [[Anime/DeathParade bartender psychopomps with a penchant for party games]], while Yurio mans the elevator.
** Otabek, Phichit and Yurio [[Manga/WWWWorking worked in a restaurant together]].
** Phichit, Otabek, Yurio, Seung-Gil and Minami all [[Anime/YuGiOhArcV played card games with tangible holograms]], [[spoiler: with Phichit being the devil and two of the devil's reincarnations. Coincidentally, one of the reincarnations is named "Yuri".]]
** From the Japanese cast of ''Anime/SailorMoonCrystal'':
*** [[Creator/KenjiNojima Seung-gil]] was the Prince of Earth and [[Creator/MamoruMiyano JJ]] Prince of the Black Moon. If Creator/KotonoMitsuishi joins the YOI cast, that "love" triangle would be complete.
*** [[Creator/WataruHatano Georgi]] was also part of the Black Moon Clan.
*** The Amazon Trio of Sailor Moon Eternal was 2/3 YOI alumni: Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Yuri) was Hawk’s Eye (once again playing a man InTouchWithHisFeminineSide), and Satoshi Hino (Emil) was Tiger’s Eye.
** In the English dub, Yurio, Victor, Georgi, Kenjiro, and Celestino are [[Manga/SeraphOfTheEnd members of an organization that fight against demons and vampires]]. Minako and Yuko are demons that reside in weapons. Mila is one of the leaders of the vampire race, and Emil is human-turned-vampire by Mila herself.
** In terms of the English cast, [[Manga/BlackButler Mila and Celestino serve as the maid and chef respectively of a young noble, with Michele as the butler of the same noble]]. Additionally, Minako is a fallen angel, Victor is a Chinese drug king, and Phichit is a death god. In reference to the Japanese cast, Victor is an undertaker, Takeshi is another death god, and Emil (and surprisingly, together with the Nishigori triplets) is the other half of the aforementioned fallen angel.
** The English dub, being produced by Funimation, has a cast list that reads like a ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'' reunion:
*** Creator/JoshGrelle (Yuri) is Lithuania.
*** Creator/JerryJewell (Victor) is Russia.
*** Creator/MonicaRial (Mila) is Belarus and Fem!Britain.
*** Creator/JoelMcDonald (Phichit) is Poland.
*** Creator/MikeMcFarland (Otabek Altin) is Estonia.
*** David Trosko (Georgi) is Spain.
*** Creator/ChristopherSabat (Christophe) is Rome.
*** Creator/JMichaelTatum (Michele) is France.
*** Creator/RachelRobinson and Charlie Campbell (Mama and Papa Katsuki) serve as additional voices on ''The Beautiful World''.
*** Creator/AlexisTipton (Yuko) is Kumajiro, Little Japan and Fem!Japan.
*** Creator/ColleenClinkenbeard (Minako Okukawa) is Chibi Romano.
*** As mentioned above in CastingGag, Creator/IanSinclair (Celestino) is Romano.
** This is only in the English dub, but Victor, Yurio, and Michele were [[Manga/CodeBreaker teenage government agents/assassins with supernatural abilities]]. There's also the hilarious coincidence of Victor's character being voiced by Yuri in the ''Japanese'' dub.

** "''Yaoi!!! on Ice''" and its derivatives, thanks to the rampant HoYay in the series. It also sometimes gets "''Slavs on Ice''" because of the huge presence of Russians in the story.
** "Piglet", "Piggy", or other porcine-themed names for Yuri.
** "[[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse Natasha]]" for Mila, the female red-haired skater on the Russian team, because of her suspiciously similar appearance to Creator/ScarlettJohansson's portrayal of ComicBook/BlackWidow.
** "Chicken Nugget" for Kenjiro Minami, likely due to his [[MulticoloredHair red and blonde hair]] reminding people of UsefulNotes/McDonalds.
** For a time, Christophe was referred to as "Swiss Miss". %%where?
** Michele is sometimes referred to as Crispy.
** Since there was no name given to the piano tune played at the end of Episode 9 at the time of the episode's release, some fans nicknamed the song "Reunion". The official soundtrack revealed that the tune is actually called "At the Airport".
