* DevelopmentHell: Two words: ''Ice Adolescence''. Initially announced for a 2019 reveal, that year came and went without any word about it and the only other update was a short teaser posted to Twitter on 26 November 2020. The movie has been taken off [=MAPPA=]'s "Coming Soon" section on their website and delayed until further notice possibly because the studio has so many other works they're involved in. Despite this, Mitsurou Kubo has said that the movie is in development but there's no word on when further news will be announced. [[https://twitter.com/yurionice_PR/status/1781155766172565922 On April 19, 2024]], MAPPA announced that the movie was canceled, citing various circumstances as the reason.

* CrossDressingVoices: Played straight in the English dub where Kenjiro Minami is voiced by Creator/TrinaNishimura, but averted in the original Japanese where he's voiced by Creator/AyumuMurase.
* DawsonCasting: Inverted with Yakov in the dub -- a coach who's 70 years old is voiced by then-23 year old Creator/DamanMills.

* DoingItForTheArt: The figure skating scenes; the fact that the team behind the anime was willing to fully animate the skaters' programs without resorting to stills or [[TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects CGI models of the characters]], even if it sometimes resulted in OffModel shots in the later episodes, is pretty commendable. It's taken further on the DVD/Blu-ray releases, where [[EnhancedOnDVD the animation is improved]] and some crowd reaction shots are replaced with more skating footage. Director Sayo Yamamoto has said that she'd wanted to make an anime about figure skating for a while, but had trouble finding a studio who would be willing to animate it (especially considering the differences ''Yuri!!! on Ice'' has from most other sports anime, such as focusing on adult athletes and having many non-Japanese characters).

* QueerCharacterQueerActor: Yuri (whose sexuality is never confirmed, but he's some flavor of a man-loving-men (or just Victor-specific)) is voiced in English by the nonbinary Creator/JoshGrelle. Noteworthy in that part of Yuri's arc involves becoming ''more'' InTouchWithHisFeminineSide through the Eros program with a costume that has been transcending gender boundaries even when Victor originally wore it.
