"Your Wildest Dreams" may not sound like their classic period, but it is very typical of their Eighties work, and was not their only hit from this time period.

** "Go Now!" fits the description, because of EarlyInstallmentWeirdness, being a CoverVersion, and sporting a Denny Laine lead vocal. But as a memorable hit of UsefulNotes/TheBritishInvasion, it's still a frequently-played oldie.
** "Your Wildest Dreams" is also one of their most-heard hits, despite being middle-of-the-road pop of TheEighties that doesn't sound anything like their classic period.

* TroubledProduction: Octave had such a rough gestation that it changed the face of the band completely. The Moodies went on hiatus in 1974 after an extended world tour left them concerned about burning out; they pursued solo projects for the next three years, then decided the time was right for them to go back to the studio as a group. As Mike Pinder had re-married and started a family in California, the band decided to decamp there to record the new album. Unfortunately, the recording sessions were fraught with intra-band tensions, and after the first studio they were using caught fire and had to be closed for repairs, they transferred to Pinder's house in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, where torrential rains caused a landslide that rendered the only road back to civilisation impassable. Though Pinder contributed to Octave as a singer, songwriter, and keyboardist, he left before recording was complete, and decided to leave the band permanently ahead of the planned comeback tour out of concern for how it would affect his family. His bandmates reacted with a mix of anger (especially Graeme Edge) and embarrassment (especially Ray Thomas), and tried to downplay his absence while promoting the album, only for a Decca executive to let the cat out of the bag at a press party in London when he described Pinder as absent in the United States. Coincidentally, Pinder's replacement, Patrick Moraz, had joined Music/Yes after their keyboardist (Rick Wakeman) left due to concerns about the band's direction following a troubled album production (1974's Tales from Topographic Oceans).

* ExecutiveMeddling: The Moodies wanted their Christmas album, December, to consist entirely of original compositions. However, the label felt that wouldn't sell, so they forced the band to include covers of well-known songs like "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and "White Christmas" (covers ended up making up half the album). It marked the first time since the Denny Laine era that a Moody Blues album contained songs not written by the group.

** Though nobody disputes that the band made the correct decision in recording Days of Future Passed, it's nonetheless intriguing to think what their version of New World Symphony would have sounded like.
** While December is fine as it is, it's difficult not to wonder if the album would have been even more interesting if the band had been allowed to follow their original vision and only include original compositions.
