* BreakawayPopHit: Averted, since the Burt Bacharach/Hal David song "(The Man Who Shot) Liberty Valance", a big hit for Gene Pitney, wasn't included in the film. There are differing accounts about whether it was actually written for the film, or just "inspired by" it. One story has Creator/JohnFord listening to a demo of the song and rejecting it flat. Pitney himself said that Creator/{{Paramount}} paid for the recording session, but in the middle of it, he learned that the film had already been released!
