* PopCultureUrbanLegends: There's been some strange mythology surrounding this short, based on the notion that it reflected some sort of "obsession with death" on the part of Creator/WaltDisney (tying into the rumors of his alleged cryogenic freezing), and that the Disney company tried to actively suppress it in later years. In fact, while it's DarkerAndEdgier for a Mickey Mouse cartoon, it's more of a HorrorComedy than "gruesome", not to mention the AllJustADream ending lightening things up. As mentioned above, it ran into some censorship issues in its original release, but has been readily available since.

* FridgeHorror: Note that the chicken is somewhat alarmed, though not entirely overwhelmed, at seeing someone in a mask strap a puppy to a chair. As soon as TheMadDoctor takes off the mask to reveal who he is, the chicken breaks down in TEARS. Apparently, the very presence of TheMadDoctor is much more overwhelming to the chicken than the presence of someone who would merely strap a puppy to a chair, implying that the chicken is well aware that TheMadDoctor has done far worse things before.
