** To elaborate, 13 episodes were scripted around the time the series was canned - if you pay attention, it's pretty easy to see where an episode begins and ends. Tomino's novelization offers a better explanation of the events in the movie, and it's possible that had they decided to use the 13 episodes scripted out for an OVA series instead of a movie, they would've been closer to what happens in the novels.

Then it was decided that what was already made would be made into a movie instead, so we get treated to the a highly condensed version of what was supposed to have been the first quarter of a fifty episode show. Made even more "what could" when looking at ''Manga/MobileSuitCrossboneGundam''.
