* GodNeverSaidThat: A main reason that most [=PS4=] fanboys claim that the games prior to ''III'' hadn't been announced to be coming to the Xbox One yet is because of a supposed exclusivity deal with Sony for the first two main games to stay on UsefulNotes/PlayStation. Not only does this not make ''any'' sense, seeing as the series has been multiplatform since ''Chain of Memories'', which was originally on the GBA, but no one at Square or Sony has said anything of the sort. The most probable reasons for those games being on UsefulNotes/PlayStation, and nowhere else, thus far is that the [=PS2=] was the most popular gaming console of the 6th generation and Square has a good working relationship with Sony, as well as Square not having another team available to port the games to the Xbox One while ''III'' and several other big projects were in the works. The fact that Nomura has said that it's entirely possible to port the collections to the Xbox One at some point in the future pretty much confirmed this. True to his word, the collections eventually did arrive on Xbox One.

Example appears to be referring to fan speculation and not an official statement, and it's completely outdated regardless.

* ShrugOfGod: Whether the remix collections will come to Xbox One and/or Switch (as well as ''III'' for that one) after ''III'' has come out. On one hand, there's a theory that Square is waiting to see the amount that ''III'' sells on Xbox One to justify the ports, which doesn't make sense because Xbox players going into ''III'' blind won't get what's going on in the story outside of what's happening in the main plot without them. On the other, Nomura has stated that it's a likely possibility and the main conceit of releasing the collections in the first place was to catch people up on the stories of the games in time for ''III'' to avoid massive ContinuityLockout with people who would either be playing the series for the first time with ''III'' or hadn't played the handheld games to keep up with the overall narrative of later entries’ stories and setups for ''III'', which is only more incentive for them to do it. Considering that the series used Disney characters to sell a lot of copies of a new game in the first place, the series has the potential to break a lot of ground on Xbox like it did the UsefulNotes/PlayStation compared to other Square Enix games due to the good word of mouth and hype generated by UsefulNotes/PlayStation players, so they shouldn't have much to worry about with sales numbers.
** It must be said, however, that [=RPGs=] don't sell particularly well on Microsoft systems, and the system is all but dead in Japan. Waiting to see initial sales might not be such a bad idea after all.
*** At X019, it was announced that the HD compilations were finally coming to Xbox One in 2020, lining up with what Tetsuya Nomura has said about needing to wait until after III was done production, as that'll be after the re:Mind DLC is going to be out.

** Xion and Kairi are both voiced by Risa Uchida in Japanese and by Hayden Panettiere and Alyson Stoner in English.
** Several characters who end up basically alternate versions of one character share voice actors, such as Sora and Vanitas (Miyu Irino and Haley Joel Osment), Roxas and Ventus (Kouki Uchiyama and Jesse [=McCartney=]), and Ansem, Seeker of Darkness and Terra-Xehanort (Akio Ohtsuka and Richard Epcar).

* ActorAllusion: Eraqus's KnightTemplar behavior and attitude towards darkness and light are very similar to how the Jedi in the ''Star Wars'' prequels are portrayed, particularly in how Terra desires greater power to protect his friends, and Eraqus warns that type of obsession and fear leads to darkness.

* CreatorChosenCasting: Being the huge nerd that he is, Creator/TetsuyaNomura chose Creator/LeonardNimoy and Creator/MarkHamill to voice Master Xehanort and Master Eraqus specifically so he could pit Spock of ''Franchise/StarTrek'' and Luke Skywalker of ''Franchise/StarWars'' up against each other.

** Haley Joel Osment, Creator/HaydenPanettiere and [[Series/SeventhHeaven David Gallagher]] have become this in the course of production. When the first ''Kingdom Hearts'' came out, they were 14, 13 and 17 respectively, playing characters who were 14, 14, and 15 respectively. However, by the time ''Dream Drop Distance'' came out, ten years had passed in real life while only two have passed in-universe. Luckily, David Gallagher's voice hasn't changed a bit in the almost 20 years the series has gone on, but with Haley, it's the most noticeable when he voices Sora in a game where Sora is de-aged to 14 again since they don't seem intent on casting a younger voice double.

* FanNickname:
** Mysterious Figure, which is from the Brady Games ''Birth by Sleep'' guide. The name is unofficial, but persists in the fan community for the sake of distinction from the original Unknown.
*** A handful of fans also refer to him as Soranort. Because at this point, he's bound to be related to one of them somehow. [[spoiler:Ironically his entire plan in ''3D'' is to create/[[GrandTheftMe become]] a literal "Soranort."]]
*** As of the release of ''3D'', he's been referred to as Trollanort, [[spoiler:thanks to his affinity for playing literal mindgames and his bordering-on-unfair use of time control in his boss battle]]. Other variants include [[spoiler:Clockanort and [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders "TOKI WO TOMARE-nort"]]]].
** Apparently Luxord's is George Michael for the (unintentional?) resemblance.
** ''Kingdom Hearts 2.8'' has recently acquired the nickname "Kingdom Hearts 3 Ground Zeroes" due to the recent compilation serving as a prologue to ''Kingdom Hearts III'', much like ''MGSV Ground Zeroes'' serves as a prologue to the main game.
** The Riku Replica has often been called "Repliku" to give him some semblance of an original name. This is actually the name he is addressed by in the German release of ''Chain of Memories''.
** Anyone who gets {{Grand Theft Me}}'d by Xehanort gets "Nort" in their name. For example, "Terranort." The process itself is called "Norting".
** "Darqua" for a darkness-corrupted Aqua.
** Also for Aqua, we have [[{{TeamMom}} “Blueberry Mom,”]] courtesy of LetsPlay/NicoB.
** The original form of a Nobody or Heartless is called a '''Somebody''' by the fandom, especially among Organization XIII (e.g. Sora is Roxas’s Somebody). The games don’t have a specific terminology for what they otherwise just call “people” or “humans”, though the fan term may come from a quote from Axel in ''Chain of Memories'' (“We nobodies can never hope to be somebodies.”) Alternativly one are sometimes referred to as an '''Other''', as Roxas refers to Sora as his Other at one point, but it is never mentioned again. One of the [[TheWikiRule wikis]] uses “Entelechies” to categorize complete beings, but acknowledges that the term has never been officially used.
** The Master of Masters is referred to as '''Mom''' since it's an acronym.
** With the rise of an item/boss randomizer for several games in the series, a whole new slew of nicknames to describe items or game situations has arisen.
*** AP Boosts are called '''Apples''', Magic Boosts as '''Mangoes''', Power Boosts as '''Pears''', and Defense Boosts as '''Dates''', due to being easier and faster to say than just "XXX Boost".
*** '''Baby Seed''' is the name given to randomizer seeds which gift the runner completion items early (any of the three Proofs) or powerful spells or abilities early (Thunder elements, the Explosion ability).
*** '''Go Mode''', as in other randomizer runs, is when the conditions to beat the game have been met, and now the runner can just go straight to the game's ending.
*** A '''Zeus Run''' is when the runner happens upon Thunder Elements and thunder-boosting accessories/abilities early enough for the Thunder/Thundara/Thundaga spell to be the primary damage method.

Actors do not count as an example of Author Existence Failure (now renamed to Died During Production).

** Wayne Allwine, the longstanding voice of Mickey since the late '70s, [[AuthorExistenceFailure died in May of 2009]], shortly after he finished recording for ''Days''. ''Birth by Sleep'' marks the debut of Bret Iwan as Mickey. It’s a bit fitting, since Mickey is nearly a decade younger and his voice for the character sounds younger than Allwine’s.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The game was originally supposed to star Mickey, but there was an internal disagreement on whether Mickey or Donald should be the protagonist. The devs eventually decided to TakeAThirdOption and feature an original character as the protagonist.
** Sora was originally conceived as a [[LittleBitBeastly half-lion person]], and his weapon was more of a [[ChainsawGood chainsaw blade]] than a Keyblade. [[https://www.khwiki.com/File:Sora_(Early_Concept)_1_(Art).png Have]] [[https://www.khwiki.com/File:Sora_(Early_Concept)_2_(Art).png a picture.]]
** Chernabog was to have been the original BigBad, the embodiment of all darkness, taking inspiration from ''Literature/AmericanGods'' with the final battle being a gradual climb up the slopes of Bald Mountain to fight him. He was instead turned into a surprise boss due to console limitations and ExecutiveMeddling.
** The final battle with Xemnas in ''II'' was supposed be quite different, with Xemnas melding into [[http://www.khwiki.com/File:King_(Art).png a giant Transformer-esque creature]] after absorbing power from Kingdom Hearts and, upon defeat, transform into [[http://www.khwiki.com/File:Kentauros_(Art).png this]] distorted version. This idea was nixed and replaced with the dragon-fortress/armored Xemnas and black-and-white coat Xemnas battles.
** Trailers showed variants of Behemoths and Wyverns from the first game in the 1000 Heartless Battle in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII''.
** In ''II'', Sora was intended to have [[http://www.kh2.co.uk/assets/kh2/artwork/kh2uc12.jpg a double-bladed Keyblade.]] How this would affect gameplay is unclear.
** [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 The Pride Lands]] were originally going to be featured in ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI I]]'', but the game engine couldn't handle any dedicated quadruped movement, so Simba was included as a summon instead. After changing the game engine, the world managed to make it into ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII''.
** [[WesternAnimation/{{Tarzan}} Deep Jungle]] was set to return in ''Chain of Memories'', but was cut [[ScrewedByTheLawyers due to copyright complications]]. ''Tarzan'' has not appeared in any game since.
** ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHearts358DaysOver2 358/2 Days]]'' was planned to feature a Pinocchio world, and the game file has some DummiedOut assets. It would have included Gepetto, Foulfellow and Gideon, and human Pinocchio, and would have had a WhatMeasureIsANonHuman-centered plot and a focus on circus scenes. It was cut due to space limitations. The world was eventually reworked and included in ''Dream Drop Distance''.
** A ''[[WesternAnimation/TheJungleBook1967 Jungle Book]]'' world was planned for ''Birth by Sleep'', with Louie's Throne Room being DummiedOut.
** The outside walls of Hollow Bastion[[spoiler:/Radiant Garden]] were originally going to be playable areas in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII''.
** An odd example is a scene from the Beta trailer of the first game, which has Riku at the top of Big Ben. What's odd is that, despite never appearing in the finished game, it is still referenced in later games as canon.
** Both Hades and Megara were set to appear in ''358/2 Days''.
** Pleakley was meant to appear in the ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch'' world in ''Birth by Sleep''.
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyX Rikku]] was originally supposed to have been part of Leon's crew in Traverse Town, but the production team decided that her name was too similar to Riku's. She was switched out for Yuffie, who received [[https://www.khwiki.com/File:Rikku_(Concept)_(Art).png the costume that was planned for Rikku.]]
** A younger version of [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Irvine Kinneas]] was also supposed to be in Destiny Islands, but was replaced with Wakka (also more recognizable, although perhaps ''because'' of ''Kingdom Hearts'').
** [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Laguna Loire]] was going to be the head of the Mirage Arena in ''Birth by Sleep'', but was cut because he was already appearing in ''VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy''.
** [[WesternAnimation/ToyStory Buzz and Woody]] were designed as a summon for ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', but were DummiedOut.
** Both [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Leon's]] and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Cloud's]] pasts were going to be touched upon in ''Birth by Sleep'', but as the world already had several members of Organization XIII appearing, it was decided that the world would have been too overloaded with characters.
** [[Characters/KingdomHeartsOrganizationXIII Marluxia]] was originally envisioned as a woman, but was changed to a man when the developers realized that having two women rebelling against an otherwise all-male Organization and get killed for it was rife with UnfortunateImplications.
** Luxord's LethalJokeWeapon was originally going to be the more character-appropriate [[http://snowpirateroy.deviantart.com/art/Mystery-Gear-References-152647191 dollar bills.]]
** Axel was supposed to be killed by Roxas at the end of the prologue in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', but was such a [[EnsembleDarkhorse fan-favorite]] and creator-favorite character that he was brought back for the rest of the game and given a [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice]].
** The members of Organization XIII who died in ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories Chain of Memories]]'' (Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, Larxene, and Marluxia) were going to be bosses in the Olympus Coliseum in ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII KHII]]'', but were cut. The Data-Battles of ''Final Mix'' are a remnant of this.
** Following the death of Wayne Allwine, Creator/NolanNorth was considered to succeed him as the voice of Mickey Mouse. However, his busy schedule, particularly with ''[[VideoGame/{{Uncharted}} Uncharted 2: Among Thieves]]'', prevented him from getting the role, and Bret Iwan was cast instead.
** Around 2002, Disney commissioned a ''Kingdom Hearts'' animated series... but it was passed on, despite excellent testing, to avoid contradicting future games and to respect Tetsuya Nomura's vision. Some storyboards can be seen [[http://sethkearsley.deviantart.com/art/Kingdom-Hearts-Pilot-Board-415016339 here,]] and an interview with the show's creator [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaO92mBdJNM here.]] Later in 2017, and again in 2018, Seth Kearsley was asking for a possibility of releasing the draft of the pilot episode on the internet. Unfortunately he could never get the okay. However in 2020 new rumors surfaced that Disney was actually developing an animated series of the saga, this time as a Creator/DisneyPlus exclusive.
** An android/[=iOS=] game called ''Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys'' [[http://kh13.com/news/concept-art-for-disneys-cancelled-iosandroid-kingdom-hearts-game-revealed-including-wreck-it-ralph-frozen-tangled-star-wars-worlds was in early development]], but was ultimately scrapped. Its new worlds included locations from ''WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}}'', ''WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen|2013}}'', and even ''Franchise/StarWars'', which Disney had only recently acquired at the time of the game's development. However, it is likely that some of the concepts featured in the unfinished work will appear in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII''.
** ''0.2: Birth by Sleep - A fragmentary passage'' was originally planned as the first level of ''Kingdom Hearts III''. But due to development increasing for that game, it was moved to the "2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue" instead.
** There were plans to include ''WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}}'' early on, but [[http://kh13.com/news/90 it didn't pan out]].
** The Assault Rider Heartless from ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'' was originally going to appear in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'' but didn't fit in with any of the worlds.
** Sora and Riku were going to wear their ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'' outfits in ''Dream Drop Distance'', but instead only do in the introductory battle and first Dive sequence.
** Another [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hnu-yMDZxAM data mine]] revealed that worlds based on ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory'', ''WesternAnimation/MonstersInc'', and ''{{WesternAnimation/Fantasia}}'' were planned to be in ''Kingdom Hearts II''. Obviously, all of those worlds ended up being in the series eventually. Also, Atlantica was going to be a full world.

** ''Franchise/{{Tron}}'', as a franchise, owes its EXISTENCE to Kingdom Hearts. Like ''The Nightmare Before Christmas'', the first ''Film/{{Tron}}'' movie was a CultClassic, at best, and was hardly ever mentioned by Disney until it was featured as a world in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII''. Soon after, Disney made ''Film/TronLegacy'', ''WesternAnimation/TronUprising'', and the Tron Lightcycle Coaster at the Ride/DisneyParks.

** Though a CashCowFranchise for Disney, now, ''WesternAnimation/TheNightmareBeforeChristmas'' was little more than a CultClassic, at first. Thankfully, the movie being [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff massively popular in Japan]] worked in its favor, as it recieved a world in the first Kingdom Hearts game, and soon became a franchise in and of itself.

A good example would be Lance Bass being replaced by George Newbern (who made it clear that the line is "Descend, Heartless Angel", not "Sin Harvest" as Bass' rushed delivery had many believing, including Dan Birlew, author of the official strategy guide.)

Cut per Complaining cleanup as this was not an example and just criticized the performance of the voice actors.

** Providing [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools a good example for why this trope is used]], Kathryn Beaumont is one of only two voice actors from [[Creator/WaltDisney Walt’s]] era who reprises her roles (Alice and Wendy). About fifty years later, they naturally don’t sound at all convincing.
