Peele expressed that he really liked the fact that his movie ended up functioning like a sequel when he first heard of the similarities between the two films, giving it his approval.

The ending was instead changed to [[spoiler:Rod being revealed as the driver of the police car, because Jordan Peele wanted a more escapist ending in the wake of/out of respect for the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown]]. There was also a very early spitball [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33guhVaX7lE ending]] where Rod goes to the community to rescue Chris, [[spoiler:only for the latter to say to the former "I don't know who you're talking about."]]
