First, ''Anno Domini 1257'' features the Byzantine Empire and Middle Eastern factions, while ''Europe 1200'' has been left unfinished and those areas are empty. Second, ''Anno Domini 1257'' features reworked mechanics (recruitment, permadeath for nobles...), while ''Europe 1200'' more or less plays like ''Mount & Blade: Warband'' on an much larger map with a historical medieval reskin.
