Not trivia. Moving to main.

* CastingGag: In the English dub. Creator/BrycePapenbrook playing a constantly-cheerful yet simultaneously entirely unnerving white haired boy? [[VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening Now where have I seen that before?]]
** There's also the additional gag of the voice actor for Makoto and Nagito being the same in both languages.
Is there an issue? Send a MessageReason:
Moving the Actor Allusion entries to the new page; besides, it's not trivia.

* ActorAllusion:
** Peko is voiced by Creator/KotonoMitsuishi, AKA Anime/SailorMoon. When she masquerades as Sparkling Justice, she wears a MagicalGirl mask that greatly resembles Sailor Moon and makes a speech about punishing people with justice. Since Mitsuishi was one of the voice actors that the script writer specifically asked for, this was most likely done intentionally.
** The Logic Dive minigame was [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2015-07-22/interview-danganronpa-creator-kazutaka-kodaka/.90760 reportedly]] inspired by Hinata's actress Creator/MinamiTakayama, and her most famous character, Conan Edogawa from ''Manga/CaseClosed''. Specifically, the Turbo Skateboard he rides around on.
** In the English dub, Hajime is voiced by Creator/JohnnyYongBosch, who voiced [[TheHero Yu Narukami]] in ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}''; fitting, since both games revolve around finding the truth. However, he ''also'' voiced Tohru Adachi, the seemingly-harmless cop who is driven by his envy and misanthropy to try destroying the world. Sounds an awful lot like pre-amnesia Hajime and Izuru Kamukura, doesn't it?
*** Add in the fact that both Hajime and Yu both start out as blank slate protagonist, get benefits through developing relationships with other characters (Social Links for Yu, and Hope Fragments for Hajime), and obtain a power that defeats the final boss makes it stronger to see relations.
** Another English dub example: A pink haired girl with [[CurtainsMatchTheWindows matching pink eyes]] who sacrifices herself in the name of hope for her friends, but did not really die so much as she is nonexistent in the real world. [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Madoka Kaname]]... or [[Creator/ChristineMarieCabanos Chiaki Nanami]]?
** A third English dub example (and a two-for-one deal, too): A boy is trapped in a virtual world gone horribly wrong. [[LightNovel/SwordArtOnline Kirito]]... or [[Creator/BrycePapenbrook Nagito Komaeda]]? Later, a boy specifically enters the virtual world to save those trapped in it. Again, Kirito... or Makoto Naegi?
** Another English example: The largest member of the main cast is a crude and boisterous BruiserWithASoftCenter who remains energetic and upbeat even after he becomes gravely injured trying to save a loved one and rebuilt as a cyborg. Specifically a cola-filled cyborg with some questionably-useful functions in his chest. [[Creator/PatrickSeitz Nekomaru Nidai]] or [[Manga/OnePiece Franky]]?

Moving the Acting for Two entry to the new page.

* ActingForTwo: Nagito's voice actors in both the [[Creator/MegumiOgata Japanese]] and [[Creator/BrycePapenbrook English]] versions also voiced Makoto from the previous game. It falls into this trope when Makoto shows up. There's also Creator/AkiraIshida and Jason Wishnov, who both voiced Byakuya in the previous game and again here. It falls into this trope considering that the Byakuya we meet here is an impostor, and the real one shows up later.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Several of the characters' concept designs were released with the artbook:
** Nagito originally had glasses and a hoodie with bat ears that eventually became Chiaki's.
** Chiaki greatly resembled Chihiro, the person who made her.
*** Images from an early build of the game showed Chiaki with [[https://danganronpa.fandom.com/wiki/File:Danganronpa_2_-_Early_Promotional_Material_(August_4th_2011)_(5).jpg another design]] that was even used [[https://danganronpa.fandom.com/wiki/File:Danganronpa_2_-_Early_Promotional_Material_(August_4th_2011)_(1).jpg in early promotional material]]. Chiaki's beta haircut would later [[RefittedForSequel be used for]] [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony Himiko]] (who, coincidentally enough, shares Chiaki's [[Creator/ChristineMarieCabanos dub voice actress]]).
** Fuyuhiko's prototype, of a big, muscular man, eventually became Nekomaru's design proper. Nekomaru's original was much more standard, with no crazy muscles.
** Teruteru was a standard tall and slender {{Bishounen}}.
** One of Nekomaru's early designs was a LongHairedPrettyBoy. Another was done in the more cartoonish style that was ultimately used for Teruteru, depicting him as a rail-thin teenager with a shaved bald head, oval eyes and buck teeth. Yet another one was a small and childish-looking boy, which was later used for the basis of Kuzuryuu's design.
** One of Mikan's beta outfits had pants. Assless pants. Well, entirely missing a backside except for straps, but the exposed legs are less special.
** Akane was in early development being toyed with as something of an antagonist character, her concept was bounced around considerably with a variety of talents (with ideas such a Criminal and Thief being considered and never used) until it eventually become Nagito.
** [[http://danganronpa.fandom.com/wiki/File:DR2_Early_Promotional_Ingame_Image_13.jpg A promotional screenshot]] shows a final strike for a Panic Talk Action against Kazuichi, who never had a PTA in the final game. However, this may have just been a placeholder.
** According to the art book, Hiyoko was originally going to be one of the survivors, with Nekomaru dying in Chapter 3 instead. In his place, Fuyuhiko was going to be the one turned into a robot after defending Peko during her execution, and die later in the game. However, the developers felt that Fuyuhiko turning into a robot would undercut the emotion from the end of Chapter 2, so Nekomaru became a robot instead and his death was moved to Chapter 4, which led to Hiyoko replacing him as the other Chapter 3 victim and Fuyuhiko becoming a survivor.
%%Source?
%%** Makoto was originally going to have been the game's BigBad, having descended into Despair. However, it was changed to Junko's AI because WordOfGod felt Junko would have been a ToughActToFollow as a villain. It can be assumed that Makoto's design for this game was reworked into Nagito.

** Unlike the first game, [[https://www.reddit.com/r/danganronpa/comments/4vo4i3/there_is_no_official_execution_settings_for/ no official source lists alternate executions for characters who weren't culprits]]. Despite this, some fans will claim that there are some; usually citing art from a {{doujinshi}} named ''Execution Fever'' while remaining unaware of its fanmade status.
*** This doujinshi became HilariousInHindsight in ''V3'', where the concept for Kazuichi's execution became the inspiration for that of Kaito Mamota's.
** There was a rumor that Makoto, TheHero of the previous game, was going to have been the BigBad of this game, but WordOfGod felt Junko would have been a ToughActToFollow as a villain. So, Junko's AI was created instead and Makoto's redesign was re-purposed into Nagito, which was also why they had the same voice actors. However, this was never officially confirmed.
** It's often claimed that the reason Hiyoko's death in Chapter 3 was largely OutOfFocus was due to them rewriting her as a victim over Fuyuhiko. However, considering this change happened much earlier in the writing phase rather than somewhere later in development, it's unlikely any of this actually negatively affected the writing surrounding her death and indeed, most likely comes from [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqdwVFIyC6w this]] video.
** Speaking of Hiyoko, late in 2020 a rumor circulated that she was originally intended to die by being murdered by Teruteru, who would then dispose of the body by [[TheSecretOfLongPorkPies cooking her remains and serving them to the others at the party]]. This has never been confirmed to be true, however, and is likely just another urban legend.

* FanNickname: Byakuya as he appears in this game is known by fans as "Fat Togami" or "Fatgami", due to how...[[FatBastard different]] he looks from when we last saw him. "Twogami" and "2gami" are also popular, given how he's someone completely different from the actual Byakuya. In this vein "Fauxgami" is also a common name English speakers use when spoilers aren't considered an issue. In Japan, "Tongami" is a very popular nickname for him.
** Due to his status as a WalkingSpoiler, Izuru Kamukura is being affectionately referred to as "Spoiler-kun".
** Monobear can be considered one too since his official name is still Monokuma.
