* {{Medusa}}: Gorgons are children of humans and ethereal spirits -- which can include anything from animate dreams to efreet and valkyries to the surviving pagan gods -- who chanced to be born as warped, terrifying monsters. In essence, they're the ethereal equivalent of the celestial-born [[{{Nephilim}} Nephallim]]. Like the Nephallim, most live in isolation, hunted by angels, demons, and humans, but they're not more inherently evil than any other mortal.

* {{Mummy}}:
** Mummies are the most perfected kind of undead that Hell can create. They're essentially immortal humans with more supernatural clout, and are functionally straight-up upgrades on the human condition with one major downside -- like all undead, their souls [[CessationOfExistence cannot survive their bodies' destruction]].
** Actual, Egyptian mummies were created specifically to ''avoid'' being turned into undead -- the necromancy developed by Hell relies on using lingering motor memory in the physical brain to animate the body, and Egyptian funerary specialists took up the practice of extracting the brain from bodies specifically to avoid having their honored dead turned into puppets of the demons.

* {{Nephilim}}: When a celestial, whether angel or demon, uses the Songs of Fruition to have children with a mortal, the issue is usually just a human with some extra supernatural power. Sometimes, however, the child is born or becomes a monster, warped in body and mind; these are referred to as Nephallim, and are shunned and hunted by both humanity and celestials. Most were born to the ancient Grigori, giant angels meant to guide humanity directly, and were hunted down when the Grigori were cast out, but some still emerge in the modern day. Despite their reputation, however, Nephallim are free-willed mortals, though it's a point of Canonical Doubt and Uncertainty whether they're capable of actually obtaining salvation. Ethereal spirits of the Marches are capable of breeding with humans under the same conditions as celestials, and also have a chance of producing warped offspring of their own; these Ethereal counterparts to Nephallim are known as Gorgons, but are otherwise largely the same sort of beings.

For both Angels and Demons, it causes physical, mental, or spiritual handicaps called Discord and unwanted attention from the internal security of Heaven or Hell (neither of which is known for going easy on dissonant Celestials). Notable are Malakim, who choose their own restraining bolts, and Lilim, who impose restraining bolts on others.

A vaugely Abrahamic account of the world is definitively true, with any supernatural forces beyond angels and demons being just manifestations of our dreams and beliefs. However, ''which'' Abrahamic faith is true remains a topic of great debate -- the Heaven and Hell represented in the game don't 1 to 1 map with any religious account, and questions like "was Jesus God Incarnate?" and "was the Quran dictated by God?" are just as heavily debated among angels as humans.

* BlackAndGreyMorality: Heaven is very far from perfect. The issue is that angels fall for going agains their nature, not simply for malice, so it's very possible for an angel to be dangerous, ignorant, obbsessive or even outright evil if they go about it in the right way. On the other hand, Hell is fighting for the cause of "reduce all three realms to a blasted, agony-filled wasteland before destroying them", so it's hard to argue that Heaven isn't ultimately in the right even before bringing up its more positve qualities.

* DisproportionateRetribution: Discussed in the GM's guide. The sole criteria for whether a soul goes to hell if they achieved their Fate. While this might be reasonable if their fate is something like "drowned their own children", eternal torture seems a little extreme as response to something like "graded a student overly harshly" (the inverse, where a serial killer can reach paradise because they avoided killing their family but did give a grieving parent a flower once, is also mentioned). Angels get around this either by having faith that seemingly minor acts can have huge-scale effects (perhaps that student giving up their studies will result in some world-saving invention never being made, or that grieving parent is inspired to start a major charity by that moment of kindness), or that it only counts as meeting your Fate if its characteristic of who you are. Demons, of course, just point to it as another example of how arbitrary and cruel Heaven's "justice" is.

* AbstractApotheosis: Gaining a Word (control over a given aspect of the universe) is the ultimate goal of most celestials. Doing so connects the celestial with that thread of the symphony, giving them great power over it while also aligning them with it in a fundemental sense. An example describes in ''Superiors: Pleasures of the Flesh'' is Harrishee, a Balseraph of Nybbas who had to go to Limbo in the Thirties to avoid pursuit from her former boss, Malphas. Having only emerged at the tail end of the Nineties, she's something of a walking anachronism, as she still prefers to dress like a Depression-era reporter and uses slang that's been out of fashion for longer than most mortals have been alive. She is also in need of adapting to the changing face of the Media, as she originally made her career as a reporter in the heyday of yellow journalism but now needs to reckon with a world where printed news have mostly been displaced by the radio, television, and the Internet.

* ImmoralJournalist: Demons of the Media use biased, deliberately inflaming reporting as a major form of social control. Harrishee, the Demon of Sensationalism, originally made her career in the heyday of yellow journalism by being a ruthless opportunist willing to spin her stories in any way that got attention and to dig up as much blackmail material as possible with which to control her "clients", and earned her Knighthood from stoking racial fears during World War I.
-->''Harrishee's biggest triumph came during World War I. She had worked hard to stir up America's fear of German immigrants, and finally published a series of "exposés" which resulted in hysteria, mass arrests of innocent citizens with Germanic ancestry, and two lynchings. The Boss smiled, and gave her a Knighthood.''

** Relievers are minor spirits created as aides and servants to the Host; they are not a true choir per se, but rather a catch-all term for celestial spirits too weak to be true angels. In Heaven, they are mostly employed as messengers, gofers, and personal aides; on Earth and in the Marches, they are typically assigned to watch over some specific mortal, thing, or place, protect it as best they can, and alert stronger celestials if something truly dangerous happens. They can gradually gather Forces and distinctions for their service, and a reliever that grows sufficiently in this manner will fledge into a true angel of any choir.

** Additionally, Hell is populated by teeming hordes of weaker spirits collectively referred to as imps, snots or gremlins. In Hell, they serve as a combination of disposable flunkies and sapient vermin; on Earth, they're usually sent to perform [[PeeveGoblins petty but frustrating sabotage against humans]]. If these critters accumulate enough spiritual growth, they can eventually fledge into true demons of any Band; the Princes usually mass-produce them and leave to fend for themselves, reasoning that the ones that live long enough to mature into demons will be the ones with the most potential as actual servants.

''In Nomine'' has always had modest success at best; as the 2000s went on, supplements for the game became few and far between, and eventually shifted to being released solely in electronic form through Steve Jackson Games's online store, [[http://warehouse23.com/ "Warehouse 23"]], before stopping altogether. Some fans have attributed the game's lack of broad appeal to its quirky D666 system and the over-the-top nature of the setting.

* MuseumOfTheStrangeAndUnusual: Beleth keeps a museum of the nightmares of murderers stocked with minor, functionally mindless dream-spirits spirited out of the night terrors of mortals who stained their hands with blood, endlessly repeating scenes of horror, fear and alienation while the souls of their dreams cower in chains next to them. Demons of Nightmares often visit this place as a source of inspiration, and view having one of their creations accepted in its halls as a great honor.
