** Mirio Togata has a form of phasing, which lets him become intangible and pass through solid objects. However, he ''lacks'' many of the secondaries that would allow him to otherwise function normally while using his power. When intangible, everything, including light and oxygen, passes through him, meaning he can't see, hear, or breathe while using his power. He can't easily keep his clothes on, either. If he goes far enough he can even sink into the ground, though his body does eject itself from whatever he's inside at the time to avoid a TeleFrag. Mirio weaponizes this aspect to enable him to move quickly by sinking into the ground and positioning himself to be shot a certain way when becoming tangible again. And even there he has no secondary power to help him point himself in the right direction. When fully intangible and thus cut off from all his senses, Mirio has no point of reference for what direction his body is facing in the first place, or whether he's shifted to face where he wants to. As such he has to know his position ''from memory'' and calculate in his head which way he needs to shift his body.

** While training for the Breaking Point technique, which consists of explosively breaking apart "hard" objects like rock, wood, or packed soil, with just the touch of a finger, Ryoga was repeatedly slammed with enormous boulders swinging from a tree until he figured out where the boulder's weak point was and blow it up before getting hit. In combat, Ranma quickly realized that the Breaking Point was nearly useless as an attack technique because the user was at point-blank range of the explosion, and would thus get pelted with debris; instead, the ''whole point'' was to develop the Required Secondary Power of ''extreme physical toughness'', to the point Ranma's attacks and even getting buried in a rockslide were like love taps to Ryoga.
** Earlier on, Ranma himself had to train hard to develop enough speed to steal a necklace from [[OldMaster Cologne]], speed he could only attain by snatching chestnuts from an open fire. While he quickly used this newfound speed to develop a RapidFireFisticuffs attack, he doesn't use it very often because he ''lacks'' the ability to throw a few hundreds punches per millisecond without depleting his stamina.
** When TricksterMentor Happosai robs Ranma of his prodigous strength with a moxibustion technique, it affects all aspects of it: Ranma is left weak enough that he [[InvulnerableKnuckles can't punch without hurting his hand]], can be pushed over by a toddler, and even a friendly pat on the back sends him flying.

** On the other hand, Pantyhose Taro's own monstrous transformation--the Spring of [[MixAndMatchCritters Drowned Yeti Riding An Ox While Carrying A Crane And An Eel]]-- provided him with two physical powerhouses (the yeti and the ox) to account for his tremendous strength and stamina despite being a 1.5 story-tall chimera... despite having relatively tiny crane-sized wings to fly with. Unfortunately for him, augmenting his form with octopus tentacles was a double-edged sword: on the one hand, the tentacles' natural instincts allow him to use them with astonishing speed, dexterity, and precision, despite how disorienting it must be to suddenly gain eight extra limbs that are nothing like a vertebrate's arms or wings (and the muscular bulk of his original transformation sidesteps the issues Rouge-Asura faces.) But those same instincts also cause him to get trapped easily in narrow, confined places, as the tentacles will slither in and get stuck on their own accord.
** The [[KamehameHadoken Shishi Hokodan, or Lion's Roar Blast]], is a ki attack fueled by the user's negative, "heavy" feelings, like depression or loneliness. It is therefore unusable if the person feels happy or proud while trying to perform it. But this is precisely what makes the user immune to it: the Perfect Shishi Hokodan emits a pillar of ki straight up into the air that coalesces into a titanic SphereOfDestruction that crashes down on the battlefield with the force of a meteor, with the user right in the center, unharmed. As Ranma realizes, that's because the ball of "heavy" ki passes right through the user, who is emotionally depleted and thus "transparent" to the technique. Without this required fail-safe, the Perfect Shishi Hokodan would flatten the user just as well.

* Subverted with Zelgadiss in ''LightNovel/{{Slayers}}'', a human/demon/rock golem chimera whose [[NighInvulnerable Nigh-Invulnerability]] comes from him having skin made of ''stone'' (and hair that resembles steel wire.) Due to his "monstrous" (in his opinion) appearance, he's willing to lose his supernatural powers as long as he can become fully human again.
* Similar to the above, the various signature TransformingMecha of ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'' and [[Anime/{{Macross}} its sequels]] employ 'Energy Conversion Armor' which uses metals and technologies reverse engineered from the eponymous Macross itself (termed "Overtechnology"). This armor can absorb energy and use that energy to reinforce it's own structural integrity. According to the various supplementary materials of the series, this is what the energy output of the Reaction Engines is used for when not being 100% committed to thrust. Thus when in Battroid (giant robot) mode, standing on the ground, with 0 thrust, 100% of the engine output is going towards telling the SquareCubeLaw to take a hike.

* The lack of these is what caused physical changes in the creatures eventually known as [[spoiler:counter]]dragons in ''Anime/UnlimitedFafnir'' is what lead to their monstrous appearances, as their physical bodies changed to accommodate the powers they possessed. [[spoiler: Iris shows this as she starts growing red diamond scales and changing her "MagicStaff" into a part of her body to use greater levels of the Catastrophe power she inherited from 'Red' Basilisk.]]

** Additionally, when questioned about her attire while out in a snowy landscape, Lum replied she is extremely resistant to cold and wind. This makes sense as she's commonly seen flying high up in the sky in the aforementioned bikini, perfectly comfortable, despite being ExposedToTheElements.

* Pointed out by the author in ''Manga/GhostInTheShell''. He goes on to explain that this is why full-body prostheses, like those of Motoko Kusanagi (whose only remaining organic components are her [[BrainInAJar brain and nervous system]]), are preferable. The manga points out that if someone were to get, for example, his arm replaced with a prosthetic, his biological body would still be subject to the strain of muscle fibers tearing where the arm is connected if they lift too much weight. Full-body prosthetics on the other hand have theoretically limitless strength (since it's now all a matter of technology), enabling them to jump huge distances (like how the ComicBook/IncredibleHulk does) and survive the impact of the landing (albeit the ground will take damage.)
** The [[Anime/GhostInTheShell animated film]] however also goes into some detail regarding the drawbacks of such a body. In one scene, it's mentioned that a full body cyborg like Motoko has a much denser body than a non-augmented human, which means that in a body of water without the proper buoyancy aids or position on the water, she'd sink to the bottom like a stone, which clashes with her hobby of SCUBA diving. In another, one of the most famous scenes of the film, Motoko attempts to rip the hatch off of a SpiderTank. However, while she can hold onto it just fine, her body gives out before the hatch does, and she succeeds in [[AnArmAndALeg tearing her own arms off at the biceps]] when the material her body is made of breaks from the stress.

** One For All is an incredibly powerful Quirk that is passed from generation to generation and basically turns it's user into a FlyingBrick (although without actual flight). However it doesn't come with the Secondary Power of actually allowing the user to saftely USE all that power. When Midoriya's get it, he trains for months and gains a muscular physique, and still can't use more than a fraction of it's power without destroying his body (the first time he used it he shattered most of the bones in his legs and arms). All Might (who had the Quirk before) didn't have this problem initially due to having a strong enough body to withstand it, but decades of wear on his body (both using One for All and natural wear) have put such enormous strain on his body that he can only use it for very brief periods of time, which is why it's time to pass it on.

However, as her powers only enhance the body's natural processes, her patient's are drained of energy afterwards, and she has a limit to how much damage she can fix at once without killing the patient. * In ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'', Funny Valentine's Stand [=D4C=] (aka ''Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap'') allows him to transport between parallel universes, or send others between them as well. It also protects him from [[NeverTheSelvesShallMeet being wiped out of existence if he should come into contact with an alternate-universe self]], even enabling him to use the body of an alternate self to recover from severe injuries.

As he result he has serious psychological problems due to suffering through the agony of countless things that should have killed him, like being cut into pieces or burned alive with high octane fuel.

* ''Franchise/PrettyCure'': Many series have pointed out that their powers are based off of their mental states. The happier and calmer they are, the stronger and in control they are. [[Anime/HeartcatchPrettyCure Cure Blossom]] and [[Anime/SmilePrettyCure Cure Happy]] have launched themselves airborne in a panic, [[Anime/FutariWaPrettyCureSplashStar Cure Bloom and Cure Egret]] have cancelled out their own forms by having a very bad argument and [[Anime/YesPrettyCure5 Karen Minazuki]] was ''refused'' her Cure Aqua powers at first because of her initial selfish reasoning.

** The horse's body is too large and heavy to be supported on wings. For a pegasus's wings to function, they need to have about 50 more times the upper body strength, and would need to have their discharge frequency increased so as to not be weighed down by their excrement. In other words, it would have to be a super ripped, muscular horse that poops constantly.

** A really unique case in Tonio Trussardi's Pearl Jam. Usually stands translate any damage to the stand back to the user; this includes not only physical damage, but also cases like Enya suffocating when Star Platinum inhaled her Justice or Steely Dan becoming immobilized when his Lovers was pinned. However, Tonio's Pearl Jam's main power is to dramatically enhance the natural healing properties of any food that he chops it up and mixes it into. Obviously that wouldn't work out very well if damage to Pearl Jam translated back to Tonio, so Pearl Jam is a rare type of Stand called a Colony Stand, which consists of multiple sub-bodies that take up so little of the stand's total mass that damage to the user is negligible at most even in the face of the total destruction of a handful of sub-bodies.

** Notably averted with the Op-Op Fruit eaten by Trafalgar Law, or at least its medical capabilities. Initially, Law couldn't heal anyone with it because it required him to have extensive knowledge of human anatomy. The Op-Op Fruit only lets him control everything within the "ROOM" he generates; he has to actually know what he's doing and how to be effective. Law eventually realized this weakness and so he spent most of the intervening years between eating the Fruit as a child and his first chronological appearance studying to be a legitimate doctor so he could make full use of its potential.

** Notably averted with the Op-Op Fruit, or at least its more medical abilities. As a child, Trafalgar Law originally couldn't heal anyone with it because he needed to use actual medical knowledge. The Fruit only lets him control everything within his "Rooms"; he has to know what to do with it, too. He spent most of the intervening years studying to be a doctor so he could make full use of its potential.
** Luffy also was an aversion since it took him years before he reached the skill level we first see in the manga. In the flashbacks, when he tried to punch something his fist would bounce off and he'd sock himself in the jaw due to recoil and lack of aim.

* In ''Anime/CodeGeass'', Rolo the {{Tykebomb}} is a subversion because he doesn't stop time, he puts your brain ([[spoiler:and his own heart]]) on pause so you ''think'' he stopped time. He never uses it for longer than a few seconds. When he spams this power later in the series, [[spoiler: [[RealityEnsues he ends up suffering from cardiac arrest and dying]]]].

* Speaking of Titans, despite their sheer size still granting them massive physical advantages over humans, they are actually pseudo-mythical and do not conform to the normal laws of physics, being abnormally light and [[MadeOfPlasticine fragile]] for their size. As a result, a Titan with SuperStrength such as Eren's does ''not'' have the required durability to support its own strength and will break it's bones with every punch unless reinforced with armor.

* ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'': Lum, alongside with her ability to generate electricity and throw lightning, is naturally immune to electric shocks herself. She in fact can absorb electricity from other sources, which can result in her getting supercharged -- afterward, she'd shock anybody she'd touch, even involuntarily, until enough is discharged. Of note is that her iconic tiger-striped bikini is impervious too; in one occasion, generating a stronger discharge than usual has vaporized her clothes, but not the bikini she uses as underwear. This certainly explains why she's so attached to it.

He just convinced all of his closest comrades that he can't draw well so they wouldn't suspect him as TheMole.]]

** Part of why [[CoolOldGuy Whitebeard]] can use [[PersonOfMassDestruction his Tremor-Tremor Fruit powers]] so effectively is that he was ''already'' an ImplacableMan before he got them, [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower thanks to decades of constant training]]; his sheer durability is pretty much the only reason he doesn’t get killed by the earthquakes and tsunamis his powers create.

* Being omnipotent without the omniscience to deduce how your changes will play out is a significant plot point in ''Anime/SerialExperimentsLain''.
** FridgeBrilliance dictates that they should be able to make themselves omniscient, at least if they are truly omnipotent. Makes one wonder why they don't do it... Maybe it just never occurred to them?

However, when he does give away quirks, the recipients' bodies have to be artificially reinforced with bioengineering techniques to handle more than two or three (or even one, if it's powerful enough) without exploding, and even with the reinforcement they're often left as mindless beasts afterwards. All For One himself, though, has an unknown number of quirks [[note]]at least sixteen known by name, many in multiples, and he's implied to have dozens more he hasn't shown off[[/note]] kept in his own body, and doesn't seem to suffer any negative effects from them at all. [[spoiler:''However'', it's revealed eventually that All for One was worried this particular secondary power would eventually hit a limit if he kept taking quirks since quirks have been naturally increasing in potency with every generation since their inception, meaning one day he might take quirks too powerful for his body to withstand. This was why he had one of his top minions, a scientist well-versed in quirks, to dedicate a great deal of time and research to artificial augmentation in order to strengthen his (and later his to-be successor Touma's) body to nip this in the bud.]]

** In fact, ''most'' Devil Fruits affect the user's clothes so that they aren't left naked (Luffy's clothes stretch like rubber when he inflates himself, and don't break; when Buggy splits into pieces, his clothes also split to keep covering the single pieces; and so on). The exceptions are Jewelry Bonney and Ain, because their powers alter the age of a target -- and clothes mantain their original size regardless of age.

** Averted by Yoshikage Kira's Killer Queen [[spoiler:[[GroundhogDayLoop Bites the Dust]]. Although he remembers how things went ''before'' his initial activation of Bites the Dust, his RippleEffectProofMemory doesn't seem to extend to subsequent automatic triggers; on Hayato's second loop Kira guesses that he's been through 'three or four from the look of it'. Despite this, Hayato ''does'' remember all of the loops.]]

** Brook is basically ''made'' out of these. He ate the Yomi Yomi no Mi (Revive-Revive Fruit), which allowed him to return to life once after he died. The ship he was on when he died was in a dense fog, and consequently it took him a year to locate his body and revive, in which time his body had decomposed until all that was left was a skeleton with an afro ([[ItRunsOnNonsensoleum strong roots]]). Fortunately, the fruit's powers also provided him with everything he needed to survive; he can move without muscles, see without eyes, hear without ears, speak (''[[SuperDrowningSkills and drown]]'') without lungs, eat without a stomach, use a toilet without bowels ([[RunningGag Luffy asked]]), etc. Then we have his ''actual'' powers: in life he was over 8 feet tall and pretty strong (if not super strong). He maintains that same level of strength and can even increase it with time, but now his body is a mere fraction of the weight, allowing him to leap incredible distances and run across water. It turns out that all of his secondary powers are a result of a special energy given off by his soul, and post-TimeSkip he's learned to channel this energy for [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower all sorts of supernatural effects]], from AstralProjection to MassHypnosis to a ''[[AnIcePerson weaponized]]'' GhostlyChill in [[ColdFlames fire form]].

** Artificial SMILE fruits don't necessarily grant you these, as part of their EvilKnockoff nature (with emphasis on [[ShoddyKnockoffProduct knockoff]]). As an example, Gazelleman can definitely run at gazelle speeds, but lacks the stamina and several other physical attributes of them, so after prolonged distances he's dead tired. And he's one of the lucky ones when it comes to SMILE fruits.
** Part of why [[CoolOldGuy Whitebeard]] can use [[PersonOfMassDestruction his Tremor-Tremor fruit powers]] so effectively is that he was ''already'' an ImplacableMan before he got them, [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower thanks to decades of constant training]]; his sheer durability is pretty much the only reason he doesn’t get killed by the earthquakes and tsunamis his powers create.

* At first one might think that the armors in ''Manga/SaintSeiya'' protect the users from the opponents' attacks; in fact, the armor's main function is to protect the user's body from his own powers since a normal human body isn't able to resist such amounts of power. Of course FridgeLogic kicks in most fights since more often than not the characters end up half-naked.

* Several of the heroes in ''Anime/TigerAndBunny''. The strong, and/or fast ones (Kotetsu, Barnaby, Antonio) are durable enough to use those skills without injuring themselves. [[AnIcePerson Karina]] and [[PlayingWithFire Nathan]] are likely to have resistance to their own elements, and [[ShockAndAwe Pao-Lin]] explicitly states that a taser won't work on her. Possibly odd example in the case of Lunatic [[spoiler: who can create fire in his hands for use in his crossbow, but his flashback in episode 16 shows that once he's set light to something (or in that instance someone) his fire can still harm Lunatic himself, as his father quite deliberately burnt young Yuri's face.]]
