!!Tropes:
* ChekhovsGun: Bowie sees the phone with all the downloaded confessionals washed up on the beach, then fakes a fall so he can grab it before anyone else notices it.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even Chef, Chris, Bowie, and Julia can’t help but cringe at Chase's actions, such as Chase apparently naming a star after Emma and calling it “Chase’s Girlfriend”, with him planning to try and change Emma’s name to the same thing.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: {{Downplayed}} as Chase isn’t evil. In the confessional, Chase admits he cannot understand why a person would put someone elses needs before their own.
* {{Hallucinations}}: While in the throes of dehydration, Priya sees a talking glass of water taunting her.
* HopeSpot:
** During the end of the challenge, Chase goes crazy and knocks Millie and Julia off of their poles before shouting “I love you!” and jumps off of his pole and onto the docks himself. Since Emma was wobbling and coming close to falling off herself at the same time, most people assume that he did it to try and show to her that he could be selfless… before he admits that he was doing all of that for the pizza that Chris was offering and didn’t even know that Emma had won. Emma never finds out the truth and gets back together with Chase as a result.
** After getting confronted with the third-degree burn by Priya during the challenge over her lack of commitment to the competition and refusal to show her best friend what she’s been writing down in her journal, Millie realizes what a terrible person she has been to everyone, especially Priya, and decides to cancel her upcoming book plans. The very next confessional reveals that Bowie not only learned of said book plans through Julia’s stolen phone, but stole the notebook from under Millie’s mattress and plans to use it to destroy her and Priya’s alliance and friendship.
* NotHelpingYourCase: Chase tries to prove he's not selfish by listing off all the "selfless" acts he's done, like donating a kidney to Emma's uncle (a goat kidney from the butcher) and painting Emma's room yellow (with a pressure washer, without moving any furniture, while Emma was asleep in there). He remains oblivious to how those things make him look bad, even while laughing about them.
* SocialMediaBeforeReason: Julia and Chase, both social media stars and the most self-centered and selfish members of the cast, have no idea what the word “selfless” means. Julia herself deserves special mention since she apparently thought it meant a reverse selfie where you’re not in the picture, which Chef wastes no time calling her out on at the bonfire ceremony.
* TemptingFate: Priya says that while she is super annoyed at Millie for not only drinking all their water, but forcing her to carry her back to camp on top of that, she’ll be fine at soon as she can get some water in her system. Naturally, the dining hall has been closed up for the day when she gets there since Chris wanted everyone hungry and thirsty for the challenge.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: Emma spends the episode listing all the horrible things Chase has done to her, which costs her any goodwill from the others when she takes him back on an obvious misunderstanding.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Priya being the most athletic and well prepared challenger is expected to last quite a long time on her pole. Instead, she's the second person out (after Bowie) after falling off due to dehydration from her morning exercise.
