* ChekhovsGun: In order to get evidence that Plunder and Blight's "research" is a hoax, Kwame, Wheeler and Takashi sneak into the villains' ship's storage room. While Kwame is recording everything with [[UsefulNotes/{{VCR}} a VCR camera]], Wheeler takes a can of the whale meat out of a box and hides it the sack on his belt, just in case the authorities "need to see the genuine article". Later, when it turns out that the recording was lost because of MAL's magnetic field erasing the tape, the can becomes the proof needed to immediately open up an investigation.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: When it looks like reasoning with the whaling commissionner won't work, Takashi leaves silently. Later, he's shown riding a speedboat towards the villains' ship, and of course, he gets spotted. When Plunder uses one of Dr. Blight's special harpoons to destroy the boat, the boy barely manages to jump off; unfortunately, he's out in the open sea, and not wearing a lifejacket. He doesn't drown only thanks to a mother whale saving him.
* GenderScoff: A double version; Plunder and Blight scoff about the other's gender after fighting with each other over what's going wrong.
-->''Blight and Plunder have just failed at capturing Captain Planet.''\\
'''Plunder:''' Nice move, Blight. You let the big one get away!\\

* ObstructiveBureaucrat: Subverted. The commissionner seems to be one at first, but soon reveals that he also wishes to see Blight and Plunder stopped. It's just that he can't take any legal actions without solid evidence.
* OhCrap: This is Plunder's reaction when Captain Planet shows up the second time.

Added DiffLines:

* SkewedPriorities: While Linka and Gi are watching whales through telescopes, Kwame is out on the sea in a pontoon, filming said animals. Unfortunately, he gets much too close to them, and winds up in real danger of being squashed, so Gi uses her water power to get him out of the way. Later, when he's back on the beach, and the girls are pulling his pontoon out of the water, he's just glad his camera isn't damaged.
-->'''Kwame:''' It is a good thing my camera is waterproof.\\
'''Gi:''' It's a good thing you weren't ''hurt'', getting as close to those whales as you did.

Added DiffLines:

Dr. Blight and Looten Plunder are hunting whales and have fooled the authorities into legalizing it by claiming it is for research. The Planeteers set out to stop them with the help of a local boy named Takashi, whose father works for Blight and Plunder.
!!This episode includes examples of the following tropes:
* DidntThinkThisThrough: When it looks like reasoning with the whaling commissionner won't work, Takashi leaves silently. Later, he's shown riding a speedboat towards the villains' ship, and of course, he gets spotted. When Plunder uses one of Dr. Blight's special harpoons to destroy the boat, the boy barely manages to jump off; unfortunately, he's out in the open sea. He doesn't drown only thanks to a mother whale saving him.
* HappilyAdopted: The baby whale orphaned at the start of the episode ends up being this in a double sense. First, it gets unofficially adopted as a Planeteer, and then, Gaia summons another nursing mother whale to take in the little one as her own.
* ItsPersonal: Gi, who loves all the sea creatures, is the most upset of the Planeteers when Gaia briefs them about their new mission.
