There isn't really a major plot in the game, but most everything ''Simpsons''-related (at least, in its early seasons) is included. The bright, attention-grabbing art and voice clips from the series helped make it a success; it won the award for best pinball game in 1990 by the Amusement and Music Operators Association.

The game was initially well-received, and it has been credited to helping pinball resurface in the 90's, mostly due to it being one of the first games with a strong "theme". Nowadays, however, it's rather hotly contested as to whether it's any good, but nevertheless it's still a decent play.

''The Simpsons'' is a {{pinball}} machine made by Creator/DataEast in 1990, based on [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons the classic animated sitcom of the same name]] (which was currently sweeping the nation at the time of the game's release).

There isn't really a major plot in the game, but most everything ''Simpsons''-related (at least, in its early seasons) is included. The bright, attention-grabbing art and voice clips from the series helped make it a success.

The game was initially well-received, and it has been credited to helping pinball resurface in the 90's, mostly due to it being one of the first games with a strong "theme". Nowadays, however, it's rather hotly contested as to whether it's any good, but nevertheless it's still a decent play.

* [[SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou Bart Simpson is About to Shoot You]]: Shown on the playfield, in between the flippers.
--> "Shoot again, man!"
* BowlingForRatings: Bowling features prominently in the game, being the method for starting multiball.
* MatchSequence: The match sequence is labeled "Homer's Lucky Scratch-N-Match", and one by one, several digits are eliminated until only a few remain.
* ScoreMultiplier: Termed "Doughnut Multipliers", they're earned by going on the top lanes. Up to 6 can be earned.
* SkillShot: The normal "three lanes with one lit to award points" affair.
* SpellingBonus: Spelling S-I-M-P-S-O-N-S and riding the ramp nets you a million points, and getting M-I-L-L-I-O-N-S enables one to get a million points ''every time'' you shoot a certain ramp.
* TakeThatAudience: A lot of it.
--> '''Grandpa Simpson:''' Don't you know how to use the flippers?
* TimedMission: Most missions, like the Millions round.
* TotallyRadical: A bit, thanks to Bart Simpson.
