The Guard Dog Herself
Hachigatsu Kokonoka Boku wa Kimi ni Kuwareru is a Supernatural Horror about Sakurai, a high school boy who has been plagued by stalkers since he was a child. His mom decided to move him to a new town to find a new beginning. However, it seems one of his stalkers found him again. A classmate named Ueda takes him to an abandoned school to help him get away from her. This turns out to be a trap as Ueda transforms into a monster and Sakurai has to be saved by Miyako. The one that was stalking him earlier, she tells him monsters of myth are coming after him but she'll be by his side.

Hachigatsu Kokonoka Boku wa Kimi ni Kuwareru provides examples of:

  • Attempted Rape: Poor Sakurai is a victim of this from his stalkers. Most of the monster girls who go after him can't decide whether they want to eat or rape him first. It usually ends up being the latter. Thankfully, Miyako is there before things get too far.
  • Ax-Crazy: When Miyako isn't aggressively affectionate with Sakurai, she is eager to rip apart the monsters that try to take Sakurai from her. The only reason Sakurai even interacts with her is that she protects him and she is saner than the monsters stalking him. Other than the fact he couldn't even get rid of her if he wanted to.
  • Came Back Wrong: Chapter 10 reveals that the monsters and spirits after Sakurai are somewhat immortal. Even if they die, their soul remains and will eventually resurrect, though they will degenerate and grow mad over time. The reason they're after Sakurai is that his body contains a "poison" that will render them Killed Off for Real.
  • Character Development: Initially, Sakurai despises Miyako and finds her an annoyance at best and downright frightening at worst. His opinion of her gradually softens as he encounters other apparitions obsessed with him, while also learning about Miyako's Hidden Depths. Sadly, this development is undone when the city's "Groundhog Day" Loop kicks in, with his latest memories being how she brutally killed the centipede apparition from the first chapter. Not that he can't re-learn to care for Miyako, as seen in Chapter 27.
  • Chick Magnet: Played for Drama. Sakurai attracts all kinds of girls to him. Just one problem: Each and every one of them is an Ax-Crazy Yandere.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Pretty much every single girl attracted to Sakurai, with Miyako and Yae being the most clingy. When the two are about to come to blows, Sakurai tries to get them to stop, but neither is willing to back down.
  • Fan Disservice: In their human forms, the monster girl stalkers look quite attractive. Their monster forms? Nooooot so much. Case in point, the centipede monster girl from the first chapter. Her true form has a large centipede body coming out between her legs.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Chapter 17 reveals that the city Sakurai lives in is stuck on August 9th. The subsequent "resets" erases the memories of everyone in the city barring apparitions. This unfortunately also causes Sakurai to lose his bond with Miyako. At the end of the chapter when the "reset" occurs, he goes right back to hating her.
  • Killed Off for Real: The reason the apparitions are so obsessed with Sakurai. While they can die, they'll eventually resurrect but grow mad with each revival. The "poison" inside Sakurai ensures they will permanently die.
  • Mysterious Past: Sakurai's past is rather vague, but it is somehow tied to why the spirits and monsters embodying urban legends are obsessed with him. In his childhood, Sakurai stole and inherited a "poison" from Kijin that could kill them permanently. He also has some unknown relationship with Hashibara, as the latter gave him his hoodie as seen in the photograph he keeps on his person.
  • Stalker with a Crush: It'd be easier to list the women in the series that aren't obsessed with Sakurai.
  • Undying Loyalty: Like the guard dog she proclaims herself to be, Miyako states she can and will follow Sakurai's every order. If he ordered her to die, she would do it with a smile. Her obsession doesn't just stem from Sakurai's status as a Weirdness Magnet, either: Miyako's apparently been defending Sakurai from countless apparitions across multiple time loops.
  • Unwanted Harem: It's pretty safe to say that Sakurai wished he was a nobody rather than deal with all of these monster women stalking him. Whenever a female monster has him in their grasp they debate whether to rape, eat, or kill him. Sometimes in that order.
  • Weirdness Magnet: For some inexplicable reason, Sakurai attracts apparitions who are all obsessed with him to varying degrees. While this in large part due to the "poison" in his body that can render them permanently dead, this trope is actually enforced: Hashibara tells Miyako that Sakurai is to act as literal bait to keep the "Groundhog Day" Loop going and enact a Kodoku curse that will strengthen the apparition Kijin worships.
  • Yandere: Pretty much the entire female cast, with very few exceptions. Miyako is the most obvious of the lot, though her monster form is actually saner than how she is in her human persona.
