Their ability to adapt to whatever is thrown at them, subvert technology, and self-replicate was too much and their creators were desperate. And in their desperation they utilized the Tenno to combat these renegade machines, but they were not the only options the Orokin used. Enter the Technocyte Plague, an organic and technological plague that twists and shapes whatever living thing it gets a hold of. Shortsightedly, it also went rogue thanks to Sentients' intervention where it started consuming whatever it could, also becoming a problem for the Orokin. It soon contributed to the destruction of the once great empire and had since [[SealedEvilInACan became hidden]] until [[MadScientist Dr. Tengus]] thought it was a good idea to [[EvilIsNotAToy release it]]. [[WhatAnIdiot Went as well as you would expect]]. * Back when the kingdom of Hallownest was prospering under the Pale King's rule, beneath the throne stood the Five Great Knights, who served as the kingdom's protectors. Among them was Ogrim, best known as the Dung Defender, who was revered for his UndyingLoyalty to Hallownest and the Pale King, and participated in many battles and adventures with his fellow knights. Alas, the Infection struck, and Hallownest was brought to ruin, with its inhabitants being turned into monstrous, infected, mindless husks. Dung Defender managed to avoid this fate by isolating himself in the Royal Waterways, where all of refuse had gathered. There, he swore to protect the grove of his fellow knight Isma, who he had a particular kind of close relationship with, and denied access to all visitors, granting passage only to those who prove their honour in combat. Such was the case with the little Knight who he once mistook for one of the aforementioned husks only to get defeated in what he described as "the most majestic knightly fashion". Though unaware of the eventual fate of his King and his fellow knights, he still held hope that they would eventually reunite and that the Hallownest will be reborn again, glorious and bright, as it ever was. Eventually, he went on the journey to make sure the line of Hallownest's Great Knights will not end with him, but not before leaving one parting gift to the little Knight in form of the dung sculpture made in its likeness.
* One day, a foul odor had spread itself across the entire House of Locations. As the investigation was held, the reason behind the odor turned out to be a new room in the sewer with a huge pool of dung and feces in the middle, its smell going all the way to the surface. A group of adventurers was sent there to investigate, but the moment they arrived, the dung in the giant pile began to rustle and scatter, and a big, armor-clad dung beetle bursted out of the dung pool, and, with a PrimalChestPound and the loud BattleCry of [[IncomingHam "FAAAAAAARRRFFUUUUNNNDADDAAA!"]], initiated the fight, ignoring the initial pleas of the group that they mean no harm. A battle ensued, and a lot of dung was chucked around, but the group eventually became victorious, launching the beetle warrior into the pile of dung. Several hours after the battle, the group returned into his place, and the warrior emerged from the pool of dung once more, this time much chummier than before. He apologized for the conflict, admitting that it was his mistake and explaining that he was greatly caught off-guard by him suddenly appearing in the unfamiliar place and assumed the worst about the group. Once the misunderstanding was cleared, Dung Defender got his place in the Pantheon, ascended as the God of Sewer Levels. As of the odor problem? It was eventually solved with the channels of pipes and vents that were designed to ward off the smell into some place that nobody visits, and with the addition of a manhole.
* As one can easily tell by his name, Dung Defender has a strong preference for dung. As his primary weapon, he can roll up the dung balls to throw them at enemies (which he can occasionally follow up by rolling into a ball to bounce together with the balls), swim in the dung pool like in the water, and dive into the dung to unburrow himself later, throwing dung balls everywhere. His affinity extends even beyond the combat, as he lives in the cave in the pool of dung and makes dung sculptures. Due to spending so much time in the dung pool, he constantly omits strong dung odor as his SignatureScent, which he calls "the proud odour of the just". As a result, very few deities want to be in close proximity next to him, and he also ended up being the primary target of the many {{Neat Freak}}s, who seek to clean him up so that he would no longer spread his "heroic odor" across the entire Pantheon.
* Dung Defender was overjoyed to meet [[Pantheon/GamingGenresAToM the Knight]] once more in the Pantheon, and would gladly come to its assistance whenever he can, always happy to have adventures together with a fellow warrior of Hallownest. Much like the Knight, Dung Defender also seeks to permanently put an end to [[Pantheon/SingularSymbolism the]] [[Pantheon/{{Insects}} Radiance]] and rid the world of her plague. The Radiance, of course, hates him, not just because he's one of the Pale King's followers, but also because she's personally offended by the fact that he managed to avoid her MysticalPlague for unbelievably long time and still manages to avoid it in the Pantheon as well.
* Because of him primarily residing in sewers, Dung Defender found allies in the form of [[Pantheon/{{Reptiles}} Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles]], another fellow heroic sewer inhabitants, and is glad to provide assistance in fighting their enemies in sewers. At the same time, he also found an enemy in the form of Ramon, a giant man-eating SewerGator. Dung Defender had agreed to take care of Ramon in case it would attack the surface in an attempt to prey on innocents, and the fact that Ramon is repulsed by his "heroic odour" has made the job quite easier for him. Also, because of their mutual affinity for dung and shared inhabitat, he managed to befriend [[Pantheon/UnorthodoxCombat Numemon and Sukamon]], always willing to stand up to their defense, allowing them to hang out in his temple, and was even willing to partner up with some of them, much to other deities' chagrin (as if his temple wasn't smelly enough). As of their unappealing appearances, he not only doesn't mind it, but even actually finds them cute [[UglyCute in a certain way]]. This resulted in him earning a lot of weird looks from other deities, but he doesn't mind.
* Given that Dung Defender is an insect, he ended up finding an enemy in the form of [[Pantheon/EarthAndRock Barroth]], an insectivorous wyvern that is known to cover itself in mud and submerging itself in the mud pool, similarly to how Dung Defender himself is known to swim in a giant pool of dung. This resulted in an unfortunate conflict once Barroth strayed too far from its House and wandered into the sewers of the House of Locations. Finding the dung beetle to be a decent prey, Barroth immediately charged at Dung Defender, initiating a battle. The battle continued for many hours, given the predator's affinity for dirt making Dung Defender's [[DungFu preferred weapon]] nigh-ineffective, and only when Dung Defender decided to rely primarily on his curling and bouncing attack he was able to dish out enough damage to the beast to force it to leave. Even then, Barroth is still known to return to Dung Defender's sewer whenever it wants to prey on him, much to his chagrin.
* [[Pantheon/LivingObjects The Great Mighty Poo]] was amused to discover of the existance of a bug who also enjoys throwing shit at enemies, and once sent him a letter to arrive into his temple for a visit, in hopes that he would enjoy his singing. Surprisingly, Dung Defender actually enjoyed his songs, which almost made the Great Mighty Poo shed TearsOfJoy. Unfortunately, he was not approving of the fact that the Great Mighty Poo throws shit at others ForTheEvulz, as he himself throws dung only in the name of the noble cause, i.e. protecting Hallownest against threats, guarding the grove he swore to defend, etc.. The Great Mighty Poo was not pleased with that, and their friendship ended as soon as it began. While the aftermath does not prevent the Dung Defender from enjoying his songs (and the Great Mighty Poo would be very eager to sing at his request), it the end, they are still enemies, and should the Poo attempt to bring harm to innocents, Dung Defender would stand by their side and engage him in the glorious poop-throwing battle.
* He was initially uneasy with [[Pantheon/{{Insects}} Khepri]], another fellow dung beetle deity, due to his close association with the sun, as it reminded him a lot about the Radiance. However, once the Dawn Bringer approached him, he proved himself to be surprisingly amiable to Dung Defender, and also revealed that not only he's not related to her, but also outright resents her for her sins. This made Ogrim breathe a big sigh of relief, and they've been on friendly terms ever since. The scarab god greatly appreciates Dung Defender's UndyingLoyalty to his King and dedication to his duties in preserving Hallownest and protecting the grove of his fellow knight, Isma, and the Defender himself in turn is very pleased with the Dawn Bringer's own dedication to his role in maintaining the day-and-night cycle. Dung Defender even made two sculptures of Khepri, one made in the likeness of his human-with-scarab-head form, and other in the likeness of his scarab form, and offered them as a gift to him, which he accepted. Both sculptures are still kept in the Dawn Bringer's temple to this very day, preserved and taken care of, much to other deities' chagrin, as they can barely stomach the foul stench of refuse produced by these "gifts".

* In the Hall of Pantheon/DreamsAndNightmares, he's known to take another form, known as the White Defender. In this form, he looks identical to his real self, but his armor is now shining white, and he's also much faster and more powerful, and reacts gallantly to each defeat by becoming stronger, reaching his maximum limit only after 4 defeats. This was the form Dung Defender possessed at his prime back during the golden age of Hallownest. Some {{Dream Walker}}s were known to challenge him in this form, and the White Defender would be glad to accept these challenges. In the rare cases they defeat him, they learn more of his internal thoughts, and discover that, [[StepfordSmiler underneath his jolly external behavior]], he dearly misses his King and his fellow knights, and desperately wants to reunite with them.

** Once in his travels, Dung Defender saw a familiar figure. Recognizing the looks as the armor of the Mighty Hegemol, he immediately rushed to meet his old friend...only to be met with a great disappointment once it turned out that the one wearing the armor was not Hegemol, but [[Pantheon/{{Insects}} a maggot]] who stole his armor for personal use. Though he allowed the False Knight to keep the armor, understanding his desire to protect his siblings, Dung Defender still wants to do nothing with the one who stole the armor of his close friend.
** His wish to reunite with his King finally came true when he learned that [[Pantheon/FacialAttributes the Pale King]] had finally ascended into the Pantheon. The first thing Ogrim did once he heard the news was to immediately arrive to his temple and proclaim his loyalty to the King once more. The Wyrm himself was also pleased to see that his most loyal Knight found his way into the Pantheon, and the Defender dedicated himself to his cause in the name of rebuilding Hallownest in the Pantheon. He also remembered the promise he made to the tiny Knight back in old Hallownest and asked the King to officially make the tiny vessel a Knight. Though the Pale King had his concerns regarding the tiny Vessel, but given his battle prowess and lack of the rebellious desires, he accepted, much to the joy of the Defender, pleased at the prospect of sharing many glorious adventures together with the Knight in the name of the mutual cause.
* Due to the similarities in their pasts, Dung Defender gets along well with [[Pantheon/{{Despondency}} the Knight of Despair]], a sad magical girl who, much like him, was a virtuous knight who dedicated herself to her kingdom and its people, but had everything she fought for getting taken away from her. Unlike Dung Defender, who continued holding on to hope that, one day, Hallownest will be reborn, glorious and bright, the Knight of Despair ended up falling into permanent despair and succumbed to the corruption, and as such, he feels pity for her and hopes that one day, she may be able to rediscover the hope she lost. The knight in turn respects the Defender for his UndyingLoyalty to his kingdom, and holds him in high regard, especially given how he turned out in the end when compared to her. The fact that she doesn't mind his odour was also appreciated by the beetle. Of course, given her destructive rampages that come up whenever the one she blesses dies or loses sanity, he won't shy away from stopping her when it's needed.

* Wulfrik expressed some curiosity upon discovering [[Pantheon/PopulatedAreas Northern Westeros]], a land that very few dates to enter. But given what the Norscan were, that didn't the World Walker or his army in any way, so he proceeded to do so anyway. ** She also became friends with [[FriendlessBackground those who have a lack of friends in the beginning]], such including WALL-E (whose only friend prior to his encounter with EVE was a cockroach) and Amélie Poulain (who was [[HomeschooledKids homeschooled as a young girl]]). She also gets along with E.T. after learning about his friendship with Elliott. The House of Friendship is always open for her as well, and she was greeted with a party from the Avatars of Friendship.
