Sheila on 7 is an Indonesian Pop Rock band based in Yogyakarta. Founded in 1996 under the name Sheilagank, the band got contracted by Sony Music Indonesia in 1998 and released their first, self-titled album a year later. At that point, the band adopted the name Sheila on 7, with "on 7" referring to the seven musical notes, while Sheilagank became their fanbase name.
The band's popularity was catapulted by their second single, "Dan", which helped their debut album sold over 1 million copies. Their next two albums also sold over 1 million copies, obviously no small feat.
After roughtly a decade and a half recording under Sony, Sheila on 7 went indie after the release of ''Musim yang Baik'' in 2014 and founded their own label 507 Records.
