Chapter 4 subverts this by having Doug's kidnapper reveal himself to Rita... and he turns out to be a {{Gonk}} resulting in Rita immediately killing him without further interaction.

* LoveDodecahedron: Sylvia is in love with Luke, who Rita is attracted to, but Rita also might have feelings for Doug, who ''does'' have feelings for Rita, but Doug is also the target of Hana's crush.

* WillTheyWontThey: Rita and Doug. This is also enforced InUniverse as Luke is amused by this and actually hinders the advancement of their relationship (like stopping Rita from realizing Doug may like her or Hana from realizing she likes Doug) for his own amusement.

* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler: Natasha]], unlike most of the other assassins, get a sympathic death, where she realises that [[IJustWantToBeLoved she just wanted to be loved]] and that she could have been friends with the caretakers of Kindergarten Noir if they hadn't met as enemies.

* BoxedCrook: Most of Kindergarten Noir's staff is made up of various criminals that are roped into the service in return for lighter sentences. None of them are particularly complaining and genuinely enjoy taking care of the kids, even if they're counting their days until freedom.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Most of the staff of Kindergarten Noir is very quirky, ranging from Rita's desperation for a boyfriend to Luke's obsession with {{Shojo}} romance. All of them are also extremely competent at protecting the children.

* ConMan: What Doug was before Kindergarten Noir, which comes in handy as his best asset is his pickpocket skills.

* DyingDream: [[spoiler:Natasha dies imagining herself as a teacher at Kindergarten Noir, surrounded by people she can call her friends.]]

* FreudianExcuse: Doug became a swindler in order to survive as a homeless orphan that society ignored or outright rejected.
* FriendToAllChildren: The teachers of Noir are all former crooks, but they are genuinely protective of the kids beyond the basic threat of death if they failed in their duties.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: It's shown that Rita had eventually grown tired of being an assassin, and switched gears to simply wanting a hot boyfriend. Unfortunately, her unpleasable standards for what she considers the perfect boyfriend leads to her falling back into old habits.
* ItAmusedMe: Recognizing {{Shojo}} tropes in Rita, Doug, and Hana's relationship, Luke goes out of his way to prevent Gordon from outright telling Hana that she's in love with Doug so RomanticComedy shenanigans can happen for his amusement.
* KnightOfCerberus: Natasha is both much more dangerous as an enemy to her and much more well developed as a character than anything prior. Her death is both one of the biggest tearjerkers at the beginning of the series and also precedes the introduction of Lyla and the MythArc of the series.

* RealMenWearPink: Luke is a former cop, TheStoic, has a massive GlasgowSmile-like scar on his cheek... and is a big fan of {{Shojo}} manga. In fact, he becomes excited when he realizes that Rita, Doug, and Hana are in a LoveTriangle.
* RedBaron: Rita is known as the "Witch" in the assassin's world.

* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: PlayedForLaughs. Along with someone with good looks, Rita wishes for a boyfriend with a solid personality and tastes... unfortunately (or fortunately) many of the assassins she falls in love with all have habits and standards that annoy her so much that she kills them on the spot when they admit to them. Amusingly enough, Rita being forbidden from killing Doug for similar transgressions means she is forced to tolerate his flaws long enough to see his good side and feel attracted to him.

* DisproportionateRetribution: Every single assassin that Rita becomes attracted to are brutally and abruptly killed as soon as they mention habits that Rita doesn't like. Spade in the first chapter was killed because he doesn't sit through the end credits of a movie.

* WrongGenreSavvy: Luke is well aware of {{Shojo}} tropes and correctly assumes that a LoveTriangle between Rita, Doug, and Hana is happening. What he's wrong about, though, is assuming that it's a case of two girls pining for the same guy and not a girl pining for a guy who's pining for another girl. His error doesn't bother him and only makes him more enthusiastic about the coming days when he realizes what's going on.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Most of the staff of Kindergarten Noir is very quirky, ranging from Rita's desperation for a girlfriend to Luke's obsession with {{Shojo}} romance. All of them are also extremely competent at protecting the children.

* MomentKiller: {{Invoked}}. After Rita and Doug accidentally kisses, Luke shoots near them to ruin the mood and prevent Rita from realizing that Doug does genuinely love her. He claims that it is because they need to focus on their next job, but in reality he just doesn't want their relationship to progress too fast.

* LoveAtFirstSight: Rita, in her desperation for a boyfriend, has a bad habit of immediately falling for any assassin that turns out to be a hot PrettyBoy. Thankfully, they always say something that convinces her they're not boyfriend material and get murdered immediately after.

* DecoyProtagonist: The first chapter follows an assassin named Spade as he's handed an assignment to assassinate a young boy at Kindergarten Noire. He's killed in the middle of the chapter as the manga reveals Rita as the true protagonist.

* WhatIsThisFeeling: [[spoiler:Natasha eventually grew tired of killing, and began seeking out Rita so she could have an opponent that would reignite her love for murder. As she is soundly beaten by Rita however, she soon comes to realize that she had confused her feelings; she wasn't growing bored with killing, she was realizing that BeingEvilSucks and that she really wanted friends and love.]]

* MythArc: Chapter 5 introduces the idea that Kindergarten Noir isn't as simple as it looks, and that there might be more to having a kindergarten staffed with highly trained crooks than just protecting the kids of important people. It's later revealed that indeed the school was created initially to protect a mysterious little girl named Lyla.

Kindergarten Noir is Japanese kindergarten school that boasts to being the safest kindergarten in the world. Its clientele is some of the richest, most powerful people in the world and its student body is made up of the very young children of those people. As such, it's prime target for assassins all over the world who are charged with killing the toddlers there. Unfortunately, all those assassins underestimate the school; it's the safest kindergarten in the world because all of its teachers and caretakers are {{Boxed Crook}}s, former criminals and killers who were once the best in their business but caught and now (semi-) forced to take care of the kindergarteners to lighten their prison sentences.

''Kindergarten Wars'' is a RomanticComedy action manga created by You Chiba, and follows the misadventures of Kindergarten Noir's staff as they try to protect the children under their care from the world's deadliest killers, along with Rita's attempts to find a boyfriend that matches her ridiculous standards and the emergence of a tangled web of unrequited feelings between staff members. The manga began serialization online in ''[[Magazine/ShonenJump Shonen Jump +]]'' in 2022.
