The dawn of live television has also lead to the dawn of the hot mic, where a character has said something they wouldn't say on live TV, but it's caught. In the age of visual media though, it has become commonplace to see examples of people making fools of themselves on live TV, then realize that their mistake has been broadcast to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people.

This trope covers characters who either realize they're live or are informed they are live after making a mistake or a fool of themselves.

A SisterTrope of IsThisThingStillOn, which focuses on Hot Mic incidents. Compare AlwaysALiveTransmission. Can happen in a TalkShowAppearance. Can lead to OhCrap. In some instances, the character may have to do some VerbalBackpedaling. May be combined with AccidentalPublicConfession or EngineeredPublicConfession.
