Edward is the DisabledBadass protagonist who has an automail arm and leg, after losing them trying to revive his recently deceased mother.

* ''Manga/PerfectWorld'' is centred around this, with the slight twist that protagonist Tsugumi Kawana actually had a crush on her wheelchair using love interest Itsuki Ayakawa years ago in high school and didn't know he had a spinal injury until after they became reacquainted through their mutual work in interior design & architecture. The manga also uses its building industry elements to investigate accessibility issues in Japan.

* Miyako's crush Takaaki from ''Anime/PowerpuffGirlsZ'' is a boy she met as a little girl. Due to an illness, he is a wheelchair-bound [[IllGirl Ill Boy]] stuck in a hospital.

[[spoiler: Even more inverted when it turns out Kurumi ''already'' knew who the man was... her very [[UndyingLoyalty devoted]] and [[GreaterNeedThanMine humble]] [[SubordinateExcuse butler]], Taisuke Honya, so this was a BatmanGambit from Kurumi to make him come forward and let their shared feelings being known.]]

* averted by Marcie from ''Webcomic/DumbingOfAge'' who has a crush on Malaya, which is unrequited at best - Malaya just isn’t interested in girls, on the evidence.
