Chief Danvers can immediately tell it belongs to an indigenous woman due to the grooves on it from mending fishing nets, and it's eventually tied to a Iñupiak woman who was murdered several years prior and found with her tongue missing.

* In ''ComicBook/{{Bone}}'', Roque Ja/Rock Jaw cuts out [[spoiler:Kingdok]]'s, leading to a literal [[IncrediblyLamePun "Cat got your tongue?"]]

* In ''Fanfic/BoopTheSnootForCriticalDamage'', Handsome Jack has Jacques Schnee's tongue ripped out as payback for lying and double-crossing him.
* Cheerilee has some fun with this in ''Fanfic/CheerileesGarden'' when, in the first chapter, she uses a machine to rip apart [[spoiler:Silver Spoon's]] tongue, and then later in Scarlet Harvest, Part 2 when she causes [[spoiler:Applejack]] to bite off her own tongue. [[spoiler:Even Twilight gets into this at the end when she finally is able to punish Cheerilee and does so by pulling out her tongue with her magic, among other things.]]

* In the ''WesternAnimation/TurningRed'' fic ''Fanfic/DenTaePhobia'', Tae-Young lies about biting his tongue to cover up the fact that his tooth hurts.

* ''Fanfic/PastSins'': ''Glimpses'': "Fury": A combatant's mouth was forced to close, which created something loose in her mouth:
--> It was the tip of her tongue, cut clean off by her own teeth.
* Invoked by Haara in ''Fanfic/VowOfNudity'' whenever she uses ''disguise self'' to infiltrate a culture where she doesn't speak the language; she always severs the tongue from her illusory appearance, to justify her inability to answer if anyone attempts to talk to her.

* ''Film/SpeakNoEvil'' plays this trope ''for horror''. Patrick and Karin's son, Abel, is incapable of speech and appears to be attempting to communicate with Bjorn and Louisa; when enquired, Patrick claims that his son has congenital aglossia (born with a tongue defect). [[spoiler:Turns out that's not the case, Abel isn't the biological child of Patrick and Karin, he's abducted after the couple killed his ''biological'' family and severed his tongue, forcing Abel to play along as their fake son to lure other families to their doom. A further EvidenceDungeon scene reveals Abel to be the 50th-ish or so child victims whose families were killed by Patrick and Karin, before having their tongues cut and forced to pose as the children]].

* ''The Licking Woman'' is a one-shot from famed horror mangaka Creator/JunjiIto, where the titular character is a deranged, insane woman who ''licks'' her victims and poisons them. The main character Miku managed to take down the woman by tricking her into licking Miku's potassium cyanide-coated arm, which cause the woman's entire tongue to swell and bloat, and in a blind attempt to suppress the swelling the licking woman ends up ripping her own tongue out... [[spoiler:only for the severed tongue to gain a life of it's own]].
