* In Jon's story of Issue #39 of ''ComicBook/TarotWitchOfTheBlackRose'', we are catered to a hypothetical story about what would happen after his death. As he ascends to Heaven (being a catholic hero), a Valkyrie escorting a viking named Einherjar crashes into him, accidentally knocking the viking right into his Heaven as the valkyrie escorts Jon to Valhalla. Unfortunately for Jon, it was right then and there he is recruited into the beginning of Ragnarok.

** Played up for horror during Shadowlands, as we see the effects of the broken system first hand, the afterlives are dying and running out of Anima, the energy they need to function, this forces the leaders of the 4 major afterlives into some hard choices, like the Winter Queen sacrificing souls scheduled to reincarnate like the Wild God Ursoc. We also discover that the Night Elven Goddess Elune allowed the attack on Teldrassil to happen because she intended for those souls to go to Ardenweld to help with the Anima drought, apparently unaware that the system was broken, and said break being the cause of the drought. After the jailer is defeated, part of Slyvanas' punishment for her actions is to remain in the maw and help sort out the souls that don't belong there, though it's stated this task could take an eternity to finish.

* What kicks off the ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' fanfiction ''Fanfic/HailToTheKingQwapdo''. The nameless main character died and was heavily implied to being going to Heaven. Then King Sombra, who recently was [[NeverSayDie defeated]], runs past him trying to get into the portal because of all the crystals. The portal quickly gets closed to prevent him from getting in. Then Sombra attacks the main character and they both start to get dragged downwards. To prevent this trope from playing fully, The Powers That Be quickly grab the main character and throw him into the closest thing to prevent that. That thing being Sombra's comatose body. ** Certain magical effects can also cause souls to be perverted from their intended afterlife. Those trapped in soul gems with ''Trap the Soul'' remain imprisoned until the gem is broken. These gems can be swallowed by outsiders for power, which condemns the soul to one of the lower planes. A more direct method is ''Hellfire Ray,'' an evil spell which condemns any target to Hell if it kills them.
