Fanfic/TheNightUnfurls plays with this trope.
** Those who commit rape are generally portrayed as either AlwaysChaoticEvil or crossing the InUniverse MoralEventHorizon, which explains the prevalence of TheWomenAreSafeWithUs to distinguish which side the readers are supposed to root for (the Eostian armies) and against (The Black Dogs) in a war setting. Bonus points for the latter, whose goal to create a Sex Empire essentially combines the heinous aspects of both rape and slavery. On the other hand, the narrative seeks to avert the notion that rape victims are either DefiledForever or suffering a FateWorseThanDeath. Namely, both Lily and Maia find themselves on the receiving end of RapeAsDrama, but the two do manage to recover.
** The instance where some characters indirectly allow rape to happen is portrayed just as bad as directly committing rape. For example, Olga once permitted the orcs to RapePillageAndBurn one of her cities, Loraine, in exchange for them joining her ranks. This action makes Olga lose a chunk of sympathy InUniverse, judged by how the people of Loraine still feel betrayed to this day, with some (e.g. Grace) even considering Olga to be BeyondRedemption.
** Another example is Shamuhaza. A supporter of the Black Dogs, he invokes FaceFullOfAlienWingWong as part of his experiments on InnocentBystanders. This one is downplayed, because the action is considered equally as evil as his other crimes, like the experiments themselves and [[spoiler:causing an ApocalypseHow through his pursuit of the Eldritch Truth]].

* In the Franchise/FridayThe13th movies, there's two cases of Jason stopping would-be-rapists on their tracks. One in Film/FridayThe13thPartVIIIJasonTakesManhattan, where he kills a junkie that was about to drug and rape Rennie, and another in Film/FreddyVSJason, even though he kills both the perpetrator and the inebriated victim in this case. This implies that sexual violence is a no-no for the big guy, his implied rape of Christine in Film/FridayThe13thPartIII non-withstanding. The ambigousness of the latter case is actually an executive-enforced case of this trope, as early discussions of Chris' backstory involved her being explicitely assaulted by Jason, until it was deemed as too exploitative for her, and out-of-character for Jason.

Note that not only is rape considered a game changer for almost all characters, but it is also so for the writer. Many stories and Crapsack Worlds have monsters who don't commit rape, even though everything about their character indicates they could, would, or should. There are also times when rape is kept "off camera" or otherwise something in the past, or hinted at once and never brought up again. Having rape in a story will immediately plunge it into the darkest and edgiest abyss of all that is DarkerAndEdgier. If they don't portray the rape as dark enough, then ValuesDissonance (and thus the most scathing criticism from the audience) will happen.
