** The first canon movie villain Beerus, the most powerful villain in the history of Z, has purple skin. He's so powerful that he [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomps]] [=SSJ3=] Goku, [=SSJ=] Gotenks, Good Buu and Ultimate Gohan. Heck, he even defeats Goku when the latter becomes a [[spoiler:'''Super-Saiyan God''']].

* ''Anime/YuGiOhArcV'': Yuya and his AllegedLookalikes all have a Dragon with a different summoning method as their ace method. While Yuya's Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Yuto's Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon, and Yugo's Clear Wing Synchro Dragon all have 2500 ATK, Yuri's Starve Venom Fusion Dragon has 2800. Starve Venom is primarily purple in reference to purple-colored Fusion Monster cards.

** His character counterpart on the ''LetsPlay/DreamSMP'' is no slouch either, being a highly competent mercenary and warrior, with skills courtesy of the content creator that plays him.

** If an antagonistic Rider shows up and they're wearing purple armor, they're probably TheHeavy and ''very'' dangerous. The list includes Ouja in ''Series/KamenRiderRyuki'', Rogue in ''Series/KamenRiderBuild'', Horobi in ''Series/KamenRiderZeroOne'', Calibur in ''Series/KamenRiderSaber'', and both Buffa and Glare in ''Series/KamenRiderGeats''. The same applies to Mashin Chaser in ''Series/KamenRiderDrive'', who is an enemy but not a Rider; and Valvarad in ''Series/KamenRiderGotchard'', who isn't a Rider ''or'' an enemy, but still an aloof and far more skilled [[TheRival Rival]] to Gotchard. The fact that most of these [[spoiler:HeelFaceTurn and become [[AntiHero Anti-Heroes]] -- Mashin Chaser even becomes the heroic Kamen Rider Chaser --]] doesn't detract from their power.

This trope existed at least as far back as BibleTimes, where the purple dye [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tekhelet Tekhelet]] was mostly limited to Tabernacle tapestries and high priests' robes in Israel thanks to how hard it was to procure-- it could only be sourced from certain species of predatory sea snails, thousands of which had to be captured and carefully crushed in order to dye a reasonably sized garment.. This more famously bled over into Phoenicia and UsefulNotes/TheRomanEmpire, whose own [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrian_purple "Tyrian Purple"]] could only be worn by government officials and [[ConspicuousConsumption the exorbitantly wealthy]]. Purple later became a common color for [[RequisiteRoyalRegalia royal robes]] in Europe, where the legacy and romanticizing of Western Rome was deeply felt after its fall. It was also the color worn by cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church, before this was changed to the more familiar scarlet.

Incidentally, of all the visible colors on the color spectrum, violet has the highest frequency (courtesy of having the shortest wavelength), and thus the most energetic and most powerful, per photon.

** Frieza, one of the most formidable villains in the series, has a purple color scheme, and several of his attacks are either purple or pink. Same goes for King Cold and Cooler. His minions have also a purple BattleAura, Frieza's is blue, but it's sometimes purple when he fights with 100% of his power.

** In ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', Universe 6's most powerful mortal fighter is [[ProfessionalKiller Hit]], who has purple skin. Not only is he physically strong enough to match and potentially defeat Vegeta and Goku [[spoiler:post-obtaining their Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan power-up]], he's also in possession of one of the most [[StoryBreakerPower broken powers]] around: [[spoiler:[[TimeStandsStill Time-stopping]]]].

* In ''Webcomic/ChampionsOfFaraus'', Leilusa, a goddess of shadow, has a predominantly purple colour scheme.This also applies to her friend and co-owner/ruler of the Hyperia pantheon, Hyperion, a god of light, although he has ''much'' less purple in his colour scheme.

* In ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'', purple is literally power, since the upper classes of troll society have [[AlienBlood purplish blood]]. Feferi and her ancestor [[GodSaveUsFromTheQueen Her Imperious Condescension]] are the only two trolls whose blood is tyrian purple and are as high as it gets. As such, the Hero of Rage clothes are purplish, and Eridan (a violet blood) [[spoiler:single-handedly murdered Kanaya and Feferi, and several seemingly invincible angels]]. And the kingdom of Derse is entirely clad in purple, and it is destined to always win against the yellow-themed kingdom of Prospit.
* ''Webcomic/KillSixBillionDemons'': Of the seven {{God Emperor}}s who rule TheMultiverse, Solomon David leans heavily on this aesthetic -- his HolyHalo, robes, throne room wall hangings,eyes, and [[PaintingTheMedium speech bubbles]] are all rich purple. Though he's not the strongest of the Demiurges, he is the embodiment of {{Pride}} and the one whose image is based on being TheAce.
* Each pantheon of gods in ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'' has an aura of a different color. The new god of the goblins has a purple aura, different from any of the others. [[spoiler:The Snarl being made up of four colors, one from a pantheon which no longer exists, cannot be harmed by the other gods, but The Dark One's purple aura may lead to the defeat of the Snarl and salvation for the Order's world.]]

* [[Characters/IncredibleHulkBruceBanner The Incredible Hulk]] has purple shorts. They are the only part of clothing that remain intact when he transforms.
* [[Characters/MarvelComicsMagneto Magneto]]'s costume is (royal) purple and red (for the blood of the victims he saw die in Auschwitz and afterwards).

* ComicBook/BlackOrchid, a super-powered detective, wears an all-purple superhero costume.
* As the mainstream ComicBook/{{Venom}} looks very dark blue, ''ComicBook/UltimateMarvel'''s Venom looks dark purple.
* In ''ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}'', Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias' trademark colours are purple and gold.

* ''ComicBook/{{Hawkeye}}'':
** [[Characters/HawkeyeClintBarton Clint Barton]] has always had Purple as his signature color. In ''ComicBook/Hawkeye2012'', this is taken to the extreme. He's always wearing something purple and his entire apartment seems to be purple, and while Clint Barton doesn't have any powers, Hawkeye is one of the mainstay and most popular Avengers and has single-handedly beaten people like Abomination, ComicBook/SheHulk, Alkhema, or the Wrecking Crew, and even entities like The Grandmaster, The Collector and even the multiverse threatening Krona.
** [[Characters/HawkeyeKateBishop Kate Bishop]] is [[TheTeamNormal the only one]] on both incarnations of the ''ComicBook/YoungAvengers'' without a fantastic or supernatural power, backstory, or enhancement [[note]]at least until a depowered Prodigy comes along, but even he had all the knowledge he accumulated as a mutant to back him up[[/note]], but this doesn't stop her from being one of the best marksmen in the world. She's also the only character to dress head-to-toe in purple.
* Franchise/MarvelUniverse villain Zebediah Killgrave, [[Characters/DaredevilCentralRoguesGallery the Purple Man]]. His MindControl powers are tied into his color scheme, as we've seen in ''ComicBook/{{Alias}}''. He also has a daughter, Kara, who can do the same. Her name's the Purple Woman.
* ''ComicBook/GreenLantern'':
** [[Characters/GLStarSapphireCorps Star Sapphires]] wield the violet light of Love, and their costumes are normally the same colour. Their rings are among the most powerful weapons and tools in the Universe.
** [[Characters/GLIndigoTribe The Indigo Tribe]] was co-founded by [[PosthumousCharacter Abin Sur]] as a failsafe against [[KnightTemplar the Guardians of the Universe]]. They wield the indigo light of Compassion, which has the power to [[HeelFaceBrainwashing enforce feelings of compassion onto those who have none]]. They're also capable of teleporting themselves and others across interstellar ranges, and replicating the abilities of each of the other Corps colours.

* ''ComicBook/{{Aquaman}}'':
** Garth, the original Aqualad. His purple eyes were initially considered a bad luck omen but were later revealed to be a mark of his royal heritage as a prince of a fallen Atlantean colony. The New 52 retconned purple-eyed Atlanteans into living indexes and historical records.
** Hila, [[Characters/AquamanSupportingCast Mera]]'s evil sister, has purple hair and is a sorceress just like her sister.
* [[Characters/WonderWomanVillains Circe]], long time enemy of Characters/{{Wonder Woman|TheCharacter}} has sometimes been drawn as either having purple hair or wearing a purple cloak. Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons also wore purple dresses and purple accented armor during [[ComicBook/WonderWoman1987 the Perez run]].
* [[Characters/MarvelComicsThanos Thanos]] the Mad Titan has purple ''skin'' and is one of the most powerful and dangerous villains of the Marvel Universe.
* [[Characters/TheInhumans Medusa]] is the queen of the ComicBook/TheInhumans and wears a purple outfit.
* ComicBook/WonderMan can transform into a purple being of "ionic" energy. In ComicBook/UltimateFantasticFour, [[spoiler: Ben Grimm]] gains a similar transformation after his powers evolve.
* Nicole the Holo-Lynx from ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics'' wears a predominantly purple outfit. As an AI, she's the most powerful when she's in the digital world.
* The Guardians from ''ComicBook/{{WITCH}}'', in every iteration of their team, always wear purple as part of their costumes (alongside teal). They're stated often to be the five most powerful magical creatures in the entire Universe.
* Donatello of the ''Franchise/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles'' wears a purple mask and is TheSmartGuy of the team. His intellect has saved the day numerous times and he's skilled with a bo staff.
* ''ComicBook/AmethystPrincessOfGemworld'' wears purple. The magic of her House is purple, too.
* [[ComicBook/BlackPanther Wakandan]] [[GreenRocks Vibranium]] is increasingly depicted in the modern era as having a purple glow when energized.

* [[Creator/DavidTennant Kilgrave]] in ''Series/{{Jessica Jones|2015}}'' is [[ComicbookMoviesDontUseCodenames never called the "Purple Man" like his Comics counterpart]]. However, his wardrobe is primarily composed of purple colors. In addition, the appearance of purple in any shot almost always indicates his arrival or the presence of one of his agents. Whenever Jessica has a flashback to her time under Kilgrave's control her memories tend to be tinted purple, and it is a good indication whether someone's dealing with trauma from an encounter with him, as Hope's prison attack makes clear.

* Mr. Impossible from Literature/MrMen. He's purple and he can do anything, even if it's impossible, such as turn invisible,fly,walk up a tree, reading a book upside down, and sleep by standing on his head.

* ''ComicBook/TeenTitans'': [[Characters/TeenTitansStarfire Starfire]] bejeweled purple leotards and monokinis. She is a also a powerful {{Warrior Prince}}ss.

* In the nineteenth century, the invention of the cheap synthetic purple dye mauveine changed this: suddenly everyone could buy purple clothes, sparking a brief fashion craze. Because of this, purple was used as a colour by some republican and feminist groups, because "what had once been only the province of royalty is now available to all the people, and the same should be true of political power".

* ''VideoGame/JakAndDaxter'': All over the place, most of the examples being related to the Dark Eco. This class of [[AppliedPhlebotinum Eco]] is colored black with purple hue and is stated to be the most powerful and dangerous of them all, demonstrated in [[VideoGame/JakAndDaxterThePrecursorLegacy the first game's intro cutscene]]. In [[VideoGame/JakIIRenegade the second game]], the experiments on Jak with Dark Eco grant him SuperMode, which is accompanied by him surrounded with purple lighting and dishing out powerful, purple-colored attacks. The most powerful gun/gun class is the Peacemaker, a purple Dark Eco-powered {{BFG}} with [[HomingProjectile homing balls of lightning]] that [[ChainLightning hit multiple enemies at once]]. Also in the third game is the Peacemaker's upgrades, such as the Mass Inverter, a [[SelectiveGravity gravity-defying gun]], and the Supernova, a rocket launcher that destroys ''everything'' in the area with [[NukeEm nukes]].

* ''VideoGame/{{Yakuza}}''
** ''VideoGame/Yakuza0'':
*** Hiroki Awano, who constantly sports a purple suit jacket. [[spoiler:In the fight against him promptly before he got killed by Lao Gui, he's revealed to have a CharlesAtlasSuperpower when he managed to shatter a wall ''with just his bare fists'', surprising Goro Majima (or caving his fucking head in if he wasn't fast enough).]] Originally, he had a yellow jacket, but his actor Riki Takeuchi suggested that Awano wears purple to match the bubble era of Japan (it probably helps that Purple in Awano's case means fame and wealth, something he constantly flaunts to everyone).
*** To a lesser extent, the Rush and Breaker Styles display a sort of Pinkish-Purple BattleAura around them, representing speed, and they're considered to be some of the most powerful styles the Series has seen.
** Goro Majima's default BattleAura is a distinctive Purple, though it also represents his poisonous and psychotic nature, and he is basically the most unpredictable character in the entire Video Game industry, and one of the most powerful protagonists in the franchise.
** ''VideoGame/Yakuza3'' has Yoshitaka Mine. He wears a gaudy purple suit, representing his extreme wealth, and when it's [[spoiler:[[FinalBoss time to throw down]], one of his fighting auras is purple, which could represent his will and resolve to defeat Kiryu.]]
** There's [[ChivalrousPervert Shun Akiyama]], who sports a slightly purple jacket, and with its purple color being rather bleached representing his laid back demeanor yet HiddenDepths, he is capable of going toe-to-toe with [[TheBrute Kamon]] [[ImplacableMan Kanai]].
** ''VideoGame/Yakuza5'' has a downplayed example: [[spoiler:The surprise FinalBoss Masato Aizawa has a [[RealMenWearPink Pink]] BattleAura, which represents purity and being unafraid to show his true colors. He also comes close to beating Kiryu.]]
** ''VideoGame/YakuzaLikeADragon'' has [[TheBrute Yosuke]] [[GeniusBruiser Tendo]], [[spoiler:who has purple bubbles that represent that it's time to get dangerous surrounding him he powers up during his boss fight, wearing brass knuckles around both of his fists.]]

* ''Literature/TheWitchOfKnightcharm'': One of the new rookies at the evil WizardSchool is Bahar, a witch who seems to be unusually powerful in that she's already able to cast spells (such as those required to brew her potions) before attending a single class. Bahar is also strongly associated with the color purple, as both her eyes and her headscarf are that color.

* ''VideoGame/{{Tekken}}'':
** [[ProfessionalKiller Nina Williams']] outfits are usually deep blue or purple. She is also a dangerous and renowned assassin who [[TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry frequently gets the better of her sister Anna]].

** Jin Kazama wears a blue and violet hoodie as a secondary costume in ''Tekken 5''. [[UpdatedReRelease DarkResurrection]] recolors it plum.
** Jinpachi Mishima, the father of Hiehachi, is the FinalBoss of ''Tekken 5''. He is predictably large and powerful and is surrounded by a purple BattleAura.

* Violet from ''WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles'' and ''WesternAnimation/Incredibles2'': her name gives it away. As part of her motif, her force fields are purple, as well as some of her items of clothing. Even her hair and eyes are a shade of purple.

* [[GreaterScopeVillain William Afton]], [[NoNameGiven originally known as Purple Man]], from ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2'' not only killed at least five children, but he also managed to stop Freddy from saving them. Keep in mind that Freddy is a very powerful robot for the game's setting, and yet when Afton touches Freddy, the game freezes and prompts "You can't" before exiting to desktop. [[spoiler:It's also implied he could be a security guard. He also managed to somehow get away with murder, not being caught by the police and only being taken down when he was [[BodyHorror crushed alive in the Springtrap suit]].
