True companions are very important to most heroes. After overcoming many obstacles and growing closer, one character might tell another (usually same sex but doesn't need to be, can also be directed towards a small group of characters) they love them (sometimes dramatically, sometimes nonchalantly). They usually don't need to elaborate because the meaning is clear. Their friendship is strong to the point that it can be described as a type of love. The most important thing is that there is no romantic suggestion between the two characters (at least at this point in the series).

True companions are a very important thing to most heroes. After overcoming many obstacles and growing closer one character might tell another (usually same sex but doesn't need to be, can also be directed towards a small group of characters) they love them (sometimes dramatically, sometimes nonchalantly). They usually don't need to elaborate because the meaning is clear. Their friendship is strong to the point that it can be described as a type of love. The most important thing is that there is no romantic suggestions between the two characters (at least at this point in the series).

Subtrope of Love Confession. May overlap with bromance or anguished/dying deceleration of love. Related to platonic life partners but doesn't necessarily have to overlap.

* OnePiece: In a flashback, the last thing Corazon said to the young Trafalgar Law before [[spoiler:he goes on to sacrifice himself to protect Law from Doflamingo]] is "Law... I love you."

reply:
In Series/{{Elementary}}, Kitty tells Sherlock "Do you know what I haven't said to anyone in a really long time? I love you. Isn't that the saddest thing?" [[spoiler:on the phone before hanging up in the airport, escaping before she can be arrested for kidnapping and disfiguring her rapist.]]

reply:
* Inverted (in that the choice of words are interpreted as "romantic" when it's not meant to be): In NaRuto, when the titular character finally managed to find a way to combine elemental chakra with the chakra-forming technique, his mentor Kakashi is so impressed that he tells Naruto that "I like you". Cue Naruto's comical disgusted reaction and Kakashi trying to explain that he doesn't mean it that way.

Can't remember the exact episode myself, but according to the The Not-Love Interest page, in ''Series/DoctorWho'', the Doctor at one point claims the Amy and Rory are the people he loves (with the time in which he would say it the ship between him and Amy would be thoroughly and long since sunk).

reply:
^ It's found in the quote section for {{Protectorate}}.

In ''Disney/{{Frozen}}'', near the end, Elsa asks her sister, Anna, "You sacrificed yourself for me?" Anna replies, "[[ActOfTrueLove I love you.]]" Of course, the ''point'' of ''Frozen'' is that true love can be platonic.

There's also a moment near the end of ''Disney/MrPeabodyAndSherman'' where Mr. Peabody finally gets the courage to tell his adoptive son, Sherman, that he loves him. Sherman replies with a MeaningfulEcho that indicates he knew it all the time.

* Sister/clone Hikaru confesses her love to Tsubasa in one very dramatic scene in Anime/Figure17TsubasaAndHikaru.

reply:
May fall victim of RelationshipWritingFumble when the two characters are a bit too touchy-feely for it to be platonic.

reply:
In ''Theatre/TheAdventuresOfTomSawyer'', Tom's Aunt Polly promises her sleeping nephew that
->One thing is certain
->No matter what you do
->This time tomorrow
->I will still be loving you.

For some examples, this might cross over with FriendshipSong or ParentalLoveSong.

[[AC:{{Film}}]]
* ''Film/BeverlyHillsCop''. When Axel Foley asks his old friend Michael Tandino why he once took the fall in a car theft and didn't tell the police about Axel's involvement, Tandino tells him "Because I love you, man."

Live-Action Film:

* ''TheInterview'': The two main characters look each other in the eye and say, "I love you," before the film's climax.

reply:
^ Tell me how it is platonic plz.

reply:
They are both heterosexual males, and it's clear that their devotion to each other is as friends.

reply:
^ good, then your example should mention that.

reply:
Any of these examples look good to the sponsor?

reply:
If I'm the sponsor then yes, they look fine to me. This is my first time creating a trope or even getting involved in the community aspect in general so I'm not sure what I should do to move it forward.

Another possible example I'm not sure about is in Kill Bill Volume 2 where the protagonist finds a sword with an inscription saying "To Budd from Bill, the only man I have ever loved" two characters in question are orphaned brothers. Not too sure is a written inscription counts as a deceleration though.

reply:
^ Probably the big thing to do at the moment is start adding tropes to the page.

reply:
^ You meant examples

reply:
^ Exactly.

In the ''WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck'' episode "Dead Duck", Darkwing tells his daughter Gosalyn that he loves her as part of a final goodbye (in a dream...OrWasItADream)
