** ''Webcomic/RebuildOfPocketMonstersTheAnimation'' adds elements from the games, such as Ash wearing Red's clothes and a cut female playable character being a major character. It also has elements of ''Manga/TheElectricTaleOfPikachu'', such as the name of Gary's sister, and ''Literature/PocketMonstersTheAnimation'', such as the Age of Majority being 10.

*** ''Fanfic/LastChildOfKrypton'': Although this fanfic uses the original series continuity, it introduces Mari Makinami from the Reduild films and uses Rebuild Zeruel instead of the original version. Likewise, the ''Franchise/{{Superman}}'' elements are taken from many different sources (comics, cartoons, films...)

** ''[[FanFic/SupermanTenchiTheInhumanCondition Superman/Tenchi: The Inhuman Condition]]'', a crossover fic with Franchise/{{Superman}}, specifically warned readers that it was a Patchwork Fic. Since characters from both franchises have multiple versions around, the author declared that he'd cherry-pick other elements to add onto his primary choices of canon. He also justified this with this sort of cross-over fic already being ''so'' not canon anyway, so being nervous about continuity was a waste of time.

* ''Fanfic/Earth27'' is a cross between the pre-Flashpoint [[Franchise/TheDCU DC Comicverse]], the ComicBook/New52, the Series/{{Arrowverse}}, Creator/{{WildStorm}}, the Franchise/DCAnimatedUniverse, ''WesternAnimation/YoungJustice'', the [[VideoGame/BatmanArkhamSeries Arkhamverse]], Creator/MilestoneComics, the ComicBook/{{Flashpoint}} timeline, ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}, ComicBook/VForVendetta and even Creator/StanLee[='=]s ''ComicBook/JustImagineStanLeeCreatingTheDCUniverse''. Not just that but it also brings Franchise/ScoobyDoo, WesternAnimation/CaptainPlanet, Series/{{Supernatural}} and Franchise/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles into the mix, with the former three being franchises owned by Warner Bros. and the latter made crossovers with Franchise/{{Batman}} in media.

** Likewise, their ''FanFic/UndocumentedFeatures'' has done this on several occasions, most recently with animated and classic versions of the Franchise/XMen (and some of their foes) (justifying them as originating in two different universes), and ''three'' versions of ''Battlestar Galactica'' (the [[Series/BattlestarGalactica1978 two]] [[Series/BattlestarGalactica2003 series]] are treated as different generations; the third source is the original 1970s novelization which had details eliminated from the final shooting script).

* ''Fanfic/TheLegendOfSpyroANewDawn'' takes place in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfSpyro'' universe, but Ember, a Classic ''Franchise/SpyroTheDragon'' series character, is a main character and Red, the BigBad of ''A Hero's Tail'', is one of the main villains of the sequel. Though this is hardly common in fanfiction for this series, but Ember is often portrayed as either a RonTheDeathEater, or force Cynder to become a {{Derailing Love Interest|s}} and RonTheDeathEater. The author's specific intention was to keep her true to her original character while making her more likable and complex.

* The Franchise/MonsterVerse fanfiction ''Fanfic/AbraxasHrodvitnon'' adapts several aspects of other ''Franchise/{{Godzilla}}'' continuities' lore into the mythos and worldbuilding expansion. Most prominently, Toho kaiju that don't exist in the [=MonsterVerse=] as of yet, including [[Film/GodzillaFinalWars Monster X]] and [[Film/{{Atragon}} Manda]], feature prominently, [[spoiler:as do Keizer Ghidorah and [[Film/GodzillaAgainstMechagodzilla Kiryu]] eventually]]. [[Film/GodzillaVsBiollante The corporation Bio-Major]] also exists in the setting.

* ''Literature/TheHobbit'' LogFic ''The Quest'', a retelling of the quest for Erebor told through Tumblr {{Character Blog}}s for [[https://quiterespectablyyours.tumblr.com/ Bilbo]] and [[https://exileddurin.tumblr.com/ Thorin]], is a mishmash of both book and film canon: the blog mostly follows the book's timeline with the characters staying in Rivendell and being locked in Mirkwood's dungeons for much longer than they do in the films and the plot having Bolg instead of Azog as the BigBad, but the characterizations are almost entirely taken from the films' and some events are depicted closer to the films' portrayal than the book's like Bilbo helping stall for time with the trolls instead of Gandalf having to do all the work himself.
* ''VideoGame/AgeOfTheRing'' mixes aspects of the books of Literature/TolkiensLegendarium with Creator/PeterJackson's [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings film adaptations]], with AdaptedOut characters from the books like Beregond and Glorfindel happily coexisting with CanonForeigner characters from the films like Tauriel and Lurtz, but uses aesthetics and designs based on the films. The overall effect comes across as it being all the characters and elements the films never got around to covering. Some factions also go for a noticeably TruerToTheText route, such as Misty Mountains being led by Bolg instead of Azog. Other than that, a few aspects are based on other video games (nearly every character from ''VideoGame/TheLordOfTheRingsTheThirdAge'' shows up in some form or another), the tactics game by Creator/GamesWorkshop, or the old ''Tabletop/MiddleEarthRolePlaying'' game.

* ''Fanfic/HearMeRoar'' is a crossover between ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' and ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'' but mixes elements from their live-action adaptations. Such as when Jaime Lannister [[ActorAllusion mistakes Boromir for Eddard Stark]] when they first meet.

* ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'':

* ''[[Franchise/{{Nasuverse}} Type Moon]]'' productions (which ''resemble'' fanfic) such as ''Visualnovel/{{Tsukihime}}'' and ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' have [[MultipleEndings various]] selectable arcs that act as AlternateContinuity versions of each other. Different characters survive and thrive in the end.
** In ''Tsukihime'', all of the "True Endings" usually have a character dying or getting amnesia or something similar; supposedly, the bonus "happy ending" isn't {{canon}}. The "Melty Blood" game and manga seem to exist in some continuity where a majority of the characters don't die and have some variant of their happy ending.
** In ''Fate/ stay night'', in the Heaven's Feel route, you end up with Rider as an ally and Saber as an enemy. The other two arcs have this the other way around. This does not stop fan comics and fics from having ''both'' as Shirou's TrueCompanions at the same time. In fact, comedic {{doujinshi}} of ''FSN'' often throw in every single Master, Servant, and minor character, including those such as [[spoiler:Caster]] who don't live through ''any'' of the three paths. They all just have too many fans. Granted, the sequel ''VisualNovel/FateHollowAtaraxia'' has everyone (except Kirei, who no one likes) alive. Including someone who was dead at the ''beginning'' of the first game. [[spoiler:Then again, dream world, so...]]
** A good majority of Type-Moon BatFamilyCrossover fanfics depict ''Tsukihime'' and ''Literature/TheGardenOfSinners'' as happening in the same universe. Canon however has shown them to be [[AlternateUniverse separate universes to each other]]. [[JustifiedTrope In fairness]], it's very likely that some version of the ''Garden of Sinners'' characters exist in the ''Tsukihime'' universe and vice versa (with the notable exception of Arcueid -- WordOfGod has stated that the [[OurVampiresAreDifferent True Ancestors]] don't exist in ''Garden''). Moreover [[FanWank since there are canonically an infinite possible number of realities in the Nasuverse where anything can happen, it is possible for a reality where the events of both canons happened to exist.]]

* The Marvel portions of ''Fanfic/RemnantsMightiestHeroes'', a RecursiveFanfiction based on ''Hunters of Justice'', likewise blends in aspects of the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse[[note]]The first steps of the Avengers being fending off an invasion by Loki and the Chitauri working together (including Black Widow and Hawkeye instead of Ant-Man and Wasp); Tony having an AI named J.A.R.V.I.S., instead of a human butler named Edwin Jarvis; Redwing as a drone instead of a real bird; the events of ''Film/BlackPanther2018'' happening[[/note]], the classic comics[[note]]The Hulk's origin involving a gamma bomb, Loki operating on his own instead of as an aide for Thanos, how ''ComicBook/CivilWar'' went down[[/note]], ComicBook/UltimateMarvel[[note]]the Chitauri being shapeshifters with a history of involvement in World War II and, like Loki, a lack of ties to Thanos[[/note]], ''WesternAnimation/TheAvengersEarthsMightiestHeroes''[[note]]Loki causing a massive breakout from four prisons (albeit more directly as the result of working with the Chitauri), the Avengers formally forming after fighting Graviton when he escapes during said breakouts, Graviton's origin involving S.H.I.E.L.D.[[/note]], ''WesternAnimation/MarvelsSpiderMan''[[note]]Horizon as a high school instead of a lab, Peter going to school with ComicBook/MilesMorales, ComicBook/AnyaCorazon, and ComicBook/SpiderGwen[[/note]], ''VideoGame/SpiderManPS4''[[note]]the origin and backstory of Mr. Negative[[/note]], ''Franchise/MarvelRising''[[note]]the depiction of ComicBook/DaisyJohnson and the Secret Warriors[[/note]], ''Series/TheGifted''[[note]]The X-Men are no longer active[[/note]], and ''Film/Venom2018''[[note]]Eddie Brock being a brunet[[/note]].

Other ways in which Patchwork Fic can come about include not having seen a certain version of the character (i.e., being more familiar with the television/film version of a character rather than the original book/comic version), a deliberate desire to combat particular instances of CharacterDerailment, or because the author really just has a [[SingleIssueWonk particular dislike]] for a character but feels that using a different version is more magnanimous than [[AdaptedOut not at all]]. Maybe one odd version of the character ended up being more interesting than every other, especially an AscendedExtra. And in some cases, the writer just doesn't ''realize'' that the character is different in this version.

Occasionally, a particularly creative writer will adapt an otherwise unseen character ''into'' the universe he's using with what he thinks is the appropriate "mood", making it a [[OCStandIn quasi]]-OriginalCharacter. For example, a large amount of Creator/DCComics fan art toys with the idea of how characters not adapted into the Franchise/{{DCAU}} might look and behave if they ''were''; the better examples of SailorEarth fall in line with this as well.
