* Mental health can have a bearing on this trope. For those whose cluster of symptoms includes depression, this is more likely than not to be Truth in Television. To the extent that depressed people have a daily cycle of moods -- a "diurnal variation", in psych-speak -- it's the mornings that tend to be harder. Dementia patients, on the other hand, are more likely to invert this trope: the "sunset effect".
* This can be really common for theatrical actors and actors in general. They run really crazy hours because of rehearsals in theater and filming in well, film. Theatrical actors traditionally have night shows, therefore they are most alert and energetic at night when they perform. As a result it's very common for them to be Night Owls and not be all that big of fans of the early morning.
* Stand-up comedians perform late at night and working comics can have to wait until the wee hours of the morning to get stage time. And after sets, comics are so pumped up with adrenaline that they then spend hours staying up and talking to each other until they've calmed down enough to go to sleep. * Music/LindseyStirling is a morning person, but those she travels with definitely aren't. Naturally this affects video gamers and many people who work out of the office at home. Computer people have a long tradition of being night owls, mainly for practical reasons. Programmers find they can work in long stretches at night without interruption. In the early internet era, the network was also less congested at night, and many torrenters favor the night time for large downloads for the same reason. When internet access was charged by the hour, it was often cheaper during off-peak hours at night. Many tech companies and IT departments schedule upgrades and maintenance during the overnight hours to minimize disruption to regular users. There's a reason computer professionals [[MustHaveCaffeine tend to drink a lot of coffee]]. It's also no accident that tech companies often have flexible hours.
* Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte never got up before noon if he could help it. As King of Sweden, he actually spent a good part of the day ruling from his bed (to the point that the Bernadotte gallery in the Royal Palace of Stockholm has [[https://40.media.tumblr.com/078f982e2927091b6b062d9e126682ab/tumblr_mtnx0rFLO21rzd9w0o1_1280.png a painting]] that depicts him doing exactly that).
** The aristocracy in general is not very good with getting up early. A popular story goes that that's why matinee shows are in the afternoon -- ''matinée'' literally translates to "morning," because to someone who spent last night drinking and partying, mid-afternoon ''is'' morning.
* René Descartes also stayed in bed until noon whenever he could. When the Queen of Sweden employed him as her tutor, she demanded early morning lessons. The shock of the early (and cold) starts killed him in six months.

* There is some research that suggests that people's day rhythm is slanted towards late nights and late mornings when they're young, then moves towards earlier sleep cycles as they get older. This might explain why parents stereotypically have so much trouble getting their kids to go to bed in a timely fashion and then have to drag them out of bed in the morning -- children and teenagers are this trope by biological hardwiring. Older people in turn are stereotyped as going to bed very early in the evening. In the U.S. there have been serious proposals to start school days later (hey, teenagers need their beauty sleep!), but it rarely gets off the ground since most parents still have to be at work bright and early.

* Yuki from ''Manga/FruitsBasket'', to the point that he often gets up and sleepwalks in the morning. His karate-trained reflexes are still in effect however, and he'll often swing punches at his rival in his sleep without being fully aware of it. This actually makes him ''more dangerous'' because he's not holding back while in a stupor.

* Hiro in ''Manga/HidamariSketch''. Particularly evident in the portrayals of the "morning exercise club" in the third season of the anime; she's the last to join as she's still fast asleep when the others have woken up.

* Misato Katsuragi from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' has this problem, even if she has not been drinking the evening before. * Galko of ''Manga/PleaseTellMeGalkoChan''; one skit in episode 1 shows her energy gradually increases as the day goes on and Otako directly lampshades this trope.
* Eiko Megami (A-ko) from ''Anime/ProjectAKo'' is a notorious oversleeper, often not waking up until Shiiko (C-Ko) is ringing her doorbell to walk to school. Making up for this often has A-Ko breaking the sound barrier to get to school on time.
* Ryoma from ''Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis''. A whole anime episode was dedicated to him sleeping in before the Saint Rudolph match and his friends trying to fill in before he gets to the courts.
* Nabiki Tendō of ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' is portrayed as such, especially in the anime. It tends to be played up in [[FanFic fanfiction]]. That is probably because she often gets woken up at around the crack of dawn by the sounds of Ranma and Genma sparring. If your "alarm clock" was two guys audibly beating on each other, accompanied by insults and random battle cries, you wouldn't be particularly energetic either.
* Usagi in ''Franchise/SailorMoon''. She's notorious for being late to school (as seen in the [[Anime/SailorMoon very first episode]]), and one time in ''R'', she says, "Good Morning!" to Rei only for Rei to fire back that it's actually ''afternoon''.
* Once Obi recruits himself as Zen's newest aide in ''Manga/SnowWhiteWithTheRedHair'' Zen and the others discover that Obi's nocturnal habits lead to Obi being very slow to wake and he is usually late without Mitsuhide or Kiki going out of their way to get him up. When he starts getting up and ready before them after Zen asks him for a favor they become concerned he's thinking about leaving the group.
* It's justisfied with Ryuuji's mother in ''Literature/{{Toradora}}'' because she works as a late night bar hostess.
* Hajime of ''Music/{{Tsukiuta}}'', despite being the mature and responsible leader of his unit. His partner Haru usually has to wake him up. And the one time he's up before Haru gets there, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness it's worrying]].

* In ''VideoGame/HarvestMoonAnimalParade,'' the Wizard is not a fan of mornings. Until a certain quest event, you can only meet him around or past ''2 AM.'' He also loves [[MustHaveCaffeine coffee.]]
* Grumpy-type villagers in the original ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'' sleep in until around 10 in the morning, most days. In all games, they'll also gripe about it being early in the morning until around noon. ''New Leaf'' introduces [[CoolBigSister Uchi-type]] villagers, who don't get up until 11 a.m. -- and if you enter their house around that time, there's a good chance they'll still be asleep...
* In ''Franchise/{{Splatoon}}'', Inklings are naturally fun-loving creatures who party way too hard so many times they can't wake up early many mornings. During [[GreatOffscreenWar the Great Turf War]], this came to bite them, because they couldn't wake up early enough to defend themselves from the enemy.

Actually, it clashes with her perfect schoolgirl image so badly that even after knowing her for awhile, people are outright shocked to see her dragging about in the morning, completely at a loss for words and unsure if what they've just seen was real. [[WeirdnessCensor And then they forget about it.]] This ties into the above-mentioned Japanese stereotype of having low blood pressure, since Rin draws a measure of her own blood nightly to store her magic.

* In the ''WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends'' episode, "[[Recap/ThomasAndFriendsS20E7RyanAndDaisy Ryan and Daisy]]", Daisy doesn't like getting up early, as she claims early mornings to be bad for her swerves. This results in Ryan having to do her work as well as his own. Near the end of the episode, Daisy reluctantly gets up early to do Ryan's work after Sir Topham Hatt scolds her for not doing her work.
