* ''MahouSenseiNegima'' ends up this way for the protagonist, with the last chapter ending with nothing for him but ShipTease. He's shown in one panel of the last chapter wearing a tuxedo, alongside TheRival wearing the same, with Asuna and Ayaka wearing dresses, but that could just as easily be a royal court function (Negi and Asuna are distantly related prince and princess, after all). Another panel reshuffles the people around him to show a close up of him, Nodoka, Yue, and Chisame, thre of the biggest contenders in his harem (and it's mentioned that all three have frequent contact with him). Then there's Chachamaru's panel saying that her time as Negi's secretary saw her "getting wound up every day."

Absolutely gut-wrenching to a first-time viewer.

As a prequel to the Arthurian legends, the show plots out the adolescence of the four main characters (Arthur, Merlin, Morgana and Gwen) and purports to end with Arthur becoming King. This raises the inevitable question concerning the Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot LoveTriangle. Will the King and Queen live happily ever after, or will she eventually cheat on him? Unless the writers do something drastic, like killing Lancelot off, there's no way to know what will happen to the characters after the show ends.

* ''VisualNovel/LittleBusters'' has case of this in the Refrain route, unlocked after every other route has been completed. While up until this point the story has been leaning towards primary heroine Rin and nearly makes her the canon heroine even in Refrain, at the end the situation is actually left ambiguous with Rin asking Riki which, if any, of the girls he actually likes. She doesn't get an answer. Which is good, since in Little Busters EX one of the new routes takes place ''after'' the end of Refrain.

* ''[[RanmaOneHalf Ranma 1/2]]'' ends with none of Ranma's [[BelligerentSexualTension relationship]] [[HaremSeries issues]] being resolved in the slightest (with the implication that the situation is going to persist for quite some time). This is largely due to the author not Takahashi no longer having any idea to plausibly bring the situation to closure.
