* An episode of ''Feral TV'' involved the cast having acquired a large stash of lampshades, which they naturally put on their heads and used as 'helmets' for a PowerRangers spoof.

A third reason is as legitimate ImprovisedClothes, when someone really needs to hide their hair or face (often because OurNudityIsDifferent) and their hat was stolen. This also usually has nothing to do with being drunk, although it may have something to do with [[GoneSwimmingClothesStolen swimming]]

Not to be confused with LampshadeHanging[[note]]though it is still possible to hang a lampshade when this trope happens[[/note]].

Regardless, the cliche nature of it has turned it into a DeadHorseTrope. It's uncommon to find examples nowadays that aren't parodies of this.

* In ''VideoGame/TheSims2'', a Sim with the Pleasure aspiration will put on a lampshade and start dancing (wasting your time and theirs) if you don't keep their aspiration level high enough.

* In ''TheDiaryOfAnneFrank'', Anne wears a lampshade as a party hat while handing out Hanukkah gifts.

* In the ''Series/RedDwarf'' episode ''Recap/RedDwarfSeasonIIITheLastDay'', Lister somehow wakes up wearing a traffic cone ("On a mining ship, 3 million years into deep space") after a night of drunken revelry. Cat {{Hand Wave}}s it by saying "It's not a good night unless you get a traffic cone.[[note]]After all, traffic cones are often used at industrial sites around hazardous areas, and the Red Dwarf is a ''mining'' ship.[[/note]] It's the policewoman's helmet and suspenders I don't understand."[[note]]Because the only possible way ''those'' would be on a mining ship would be if they were some crewman's '''fetish gear!'''[[/note]]
