Older works and period pieces tend to contain this a lot due to ValuesDissonance. Since actual obesity was relatively uncommon until the last quarter of the 20th century, a person who was only twenty or thirty pounds overweight back then would have been seen as the equivalent of a modern person weighing 400 pounds.

* ''Series/AmericasNextTopModel'', at least once per season. There is always the "curvy" girl that everyone treats as hideously overweight. In reality, those girls are ''maybe'' average weight. Maybe.
** Particular notice of one girl, who got told "Look, you entered this as a plus-sized model, and you've lost weight. Either you gain it back, or you lose enough to compete with the other models." by Tyra.
** This came to a head during the season where the "plus-sized" girl actually won. Many people felt it was disingenuous of ''Top Model'' to continually praise themselves for crowning a "plus-size model" when the girl in question, Whitney, barely looked heavier than the rest of the girls. [[http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/6200000/ANTM-Whitney-whitney-thompson-6256483-500-752.jpg A comparison of her and the runner up.]] She's the one in pink; the runner-up, in black, is not plus-size.
*** It's also true that in the high fashion world, she would actually be considered plus-sized. In one of the episodes, the girls were supposed to find a fashion sponsor or something, and at least two told this girl that they did not carry her size. In another season, there were two plus-sized models, and often the clothing selected for them were quite ill-fitted for curvy women, causing commentary about how "big" the girls were.

Not so much with Margaret Cho, however.* ''Series/EmptyNest'': Carol spends the entire run of the series obsessed with her weight and convinced that she's fat, to the point of denouncing herself as "a fat pig" should she weigh more than 120 pounds.
