** Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf was forced to lead a crusade to get the US Army to loosen their goofy BMI standards for soldiers. Since the BMI is fooled by people with lots of muscle mass (the kind of people you ''want'' to be soldiers), very fit men were being forced to starve themselves before weigh-ins to meet an arbitrary standard. He finally won the argument when he showed his superiors the roster for the Washington Redskins and pointed out that ''every single one would fail.''

size 0? Hollywood ≠ fashion industry. jesus christ, talk about hyperbole. most actresses are size 6-8. No one is "big-boned".

* For a while, it was a popular meme for fashion mags to note how MarilynMonroe -- considered one of the sexiest women ''ever'' -- [[ValuesDissonance would be considered "overweight" by modern standards.]] And would do this without a trace of irony. The "Lad Mags" did the same thing, but for the purpose of openly mocking those who thought that way. It's true that she was a size 16: in 1950s sizing. In today's sizing, she'd probably be a size 8 (possibly size 10). She really was 5'5", but no way in hell was she 112 pounds. But there again, in today's Hollywood there would be no chance in hell for a sex symbol to be seen being a contemporary size 8. Today's Hollywood demands female sex symbols to be no bigger than a size 2. A size 4 is pushing it, and a size 0 is ''perfect''. The implication that Marilyn Monroe wasn't criticized in her lifetime for being overweight is false, sadly.

* Sometimes the press will give the weights of celebrities as lighter than they are. One example is Blake lively, who despite being famously pretty is said to weigh 123 pounds. Homegirl is 5'10", so that puts her at a BMI of 17.6. Which isn't uncommon in Hollywood, but she's also famously not-skinny. [[http://www.skinnyvscurvy.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/blake-lively-will-only-wear-size-0.jpg Observe.]] So apparently it's not just the aesthetic-even if you are accepted as totally gorgeous, you must also be light as a feather. I hate people.

[[http://www.harry-potter-movie-buzz.com/wp-content/uploads/harrypotter/large_Snape%20Treaching%20Occlumency-7skeyb77.jpg This is what Rickman looked like in]] OrderOfThePhoenix. First off, he's sixty-four years old and [[PlayingHamlet playing a character who goes from 31 to 38 in the course of the series]]; 64-year-old men have a different build from men in their thirties. Second, he's big-boned, and it naturally follows that big-boned people are heavier (and appear wider) than their lighter-boned counterparts. (Rickman's being in many scenes with Daniel Radcliffe, who is the very definition of "sparrow-boned", doesn't help.). Third, [[CaptainObvious HE IS NOT ANYWHERE FUCKING NEAR FAT!!!]] (He did put on weight in 2003 to play Dr. Alfred Blalock in SomethingTheLordMade, but as evidenced by the fact that he was back in Snape-shape in GobletOfFire, it wasn't a whole lot and he lost it pretty quickly.) I sincerely hope that petition is a joke. If not... We're fucked.

-->'''Liz:''' "And in Cleveland, I’m a model!"
-->'''Jenna:''' "Yeah, we’re all models west of the Allegheny."

* International sex symbol/Jessica Rabbit doppelganger [[MadMen Christina Hendricks]] caught some flack for her [[http://blog.zap2it.com/thedishrag/christina-hendricks-golden-globes-2010.jpg Golden Globes dress]] from one New York Times blogger, who stated, "You don't put a big girl in a big dress." ''Big girl?!'' The only big things in that photo are Hendricks' own [[BuxomIsBetter Golden Globes]]. Hendricks is on the large end of the average range (that's why her breasts can ''exist'' without Mr. Silicon having to get involved), and is actually quite ''tall'' at 5'7" (171 cm), so there's a given value of "big" that applies to her. That said, that blogger's eyes are ''fake'' if they have an objection to how Hendricks looks in that dress—that or they're the enemy of all that's good and decent. [[hottip:*:Unless they meant, "put her in a smaller dress." Which is a little...unsophisticated, perhaps, but [[FanService a defensible position]].]]
