* Just to show that men aren't immune to this, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf was forced to lead a crusade to get the US Army to loosen their goofy BMI standards for soldiers. Since the BMI is fooled by people with lots of muscle mass (the kind of people you ''want'' to be soldiers), very fit men were being forced to starve themselves before weigh-ins to meet an arbitrary standard. He finally won the argument when he showed his superiors the roster for the Washington Redskins and pointed out that ''every single one would fail.''

* For a while, it was a popular meme for fashion mags to note how MarilynMonroe -- considered one of the sexiest women ''ever'' -- [[ValuesDissonance would be considered "overweight" by modern standards.]] And would do this without a trace of irony. The "Lad Mags" did the same thing, but for the purpose of openly mocking those who thought that way. It's true that she was a size 16: in 1950s sizing. In today's sizing, she'd probably be a size 8 (possibly size 10). She really was 5'5", but no way in hell was she 112 pounds. But there again, in today's Hollywood there would be no chance in hell for a sex symbol to be seen being a contemporary size 8. Today's Hollywood demands female sex symbols to be no bigger than a size 2. A size 4 is pushing it, and a size 0 is ''perfect''. The implication that Marilyn Monroe wasn't criticized in her lifetime for being overweight is false, sadly.

* Sometimes the press will give the weights of celebrities as lighter than they are. One example is Blake lively, who despite being famously pretty is said to weigh 123 pounds. Homegirl is 5'10", so that puts her at a BMI of 17.6. Which isn't uncommon in Hollywood, but she's also famously not-skinny. Second, he's big-boned, and it naturally follows that big-boned people are heavier (and appear wider) than their lighter-boned counterparts. (Rickman's being in many scenes with Daniel Radcliffe, who is the very definition of "sparrow-boned", doesn't help.). Third, [[CaptainObvious HE IS NOT ANYWHERE FUCKING NEAR FAT!!!]] (He did put on weight in 2003 to play Dr. Alfred Blalock in SomethingTheLordMade, but as evidenced by the fact that he was back in Snape-shape in GobletOfFire, it wasn't a whole lot and he lost it pretty quickly.) I sincerely hope that petition is a joke. If not... We're fucked.
