Rather than have something [[DidntSeeThatComing unexpected]] happen, the researchers have everything proceed in an orderly fashion, up to the point when the experiment is about to conclude and make the SuperPrototype, harness the power of a supernova/black hole, or otherwise be put to use. The results are everything they hoped for; ''better,'' in fact. Unfortunately, they've succeeded '''too''' well, and it's this success that dooms them. Either it turns out to be too intense, too powerful, or too strong-willed to be controlled. Or they just forgot the 'control' part. ''and the entire island'', including two ships docked in Macross Bay! Fortunately, the island's denizens were airtight emergency bunkers, so no one (that we know of) died. Also, they ended up on the far side of [[strike: Mars]] Pluto!

* ''YetAnotherFantasyGamerComic'': Gruumsh, the chief Orc god, sought to create a warrior who combined the best of humanity and orcs to unite both people under his banner and conquer the world. When several attempts turned out to be "flawed" in one way or another (one of them being Glon), he [[DeusExMachina intervened directly]], removing all the traits he could that wouldn't result in [[TheChosenOne The Ultimate Warrior]]. The end result of this was Jone, a nigh-unstoppable GhostGirl warrior. Unfortunately, in removing the non-"killing machine" bits from Jone, he seemed to have removed the off switch for her BerserkerRage, resulting in her slaughtering friend and foe alike. Whoops.

* In OnePiece, during the Whitebeard War Saga, the Marines' goal is to execute Ace, [[spoiler: son of the Pirate King]], and kill Whitebeard. [[spoiler: Both do indeed die, but in the process, Whitebeard's last words reignites the Golden Age of Piracy all over again, nearly 300 inmates from Impel Down, a contingent led by a commander of the Revolutionary Army, and who knows how much of the people of Level Six, which contained some of the worst criminals in history escape, and worst of all, the way is paved for the rise of Blackbeard, instigator of this whole mess who took the strongest inmates from Level Six into his own crew and managed to do the impossible and gained two Devil's Fruits, now with Whitebeard's [[PersonOfMassDestruction Gura Gura no Mi]] power]].
