** The Bible tends to describe evil as that which violates God's desires and commands (Judges 2:11, 2 Samuel 12:9, Psalm 5:4-6; 51:4). Although the Bible describes God as a God of good, it does not rule out [[GoodIsNotSoft Him bringing punishment and calamity]]. However, this punishment does tend to come through people who ''are'' wicked, and God is repeatedly shown to be able to "work" malicious actions and events into His plans (being omnipotent and omniscient helps). The exact nature and origin of evil itself, along with how God "works" with it, aren't entirely clear, which is a ''huge'' source of debate and speculation.

** In the Bible, God admits to being God of evil (2 Kings 6:33, Isaiah 45:7, Lamentations 3:38, arguably the Genesis story). Specifically, He is responsible for evil's existence (among that of, well, ''everything'') but does not accept this as an excuse for people to be wicked. God hates evil deeds and will punish those who commit them but still loves all people and does not take pleasure in the death of evil doers (Jeremiah 31, Lamentations 3:32, Ezekiel 18:23, 18:32). In Hosea, God does declare He is going to stop loving sinners and hate them but later admits He cannot do it, still loves them and cannot bring Himself to punish them as they really deserve.
** Technically God isn't a God of "Good." Being the monotheistic creator, He's the God of ''everything.'' Good is just one of His more well-known traits, particularly since it's what He generally wants His followers to strive for.
