* In ''Creator/AynRand'''s ''Literature/TheFountainhead'', the villain Ellsworth Toohey engages in a villain's gloating, fitting all the standard criteria. He describes in detail how he is going to take over the world and what a terrible place he is going to make of it, and emphasizes that he is not doing it for any personal benefit but merely ForTheEvulz. He also gets ranting about how the book's hero Howard Roark is going to get beaten up and mistreated in prison. However, Toohey is not able to address this gloating directly to Roark himself, who considers Toohey beneath contempt and refuses to pay any attention to him. Rather, he has to make his gloating to a weaker character, Peter Keating, whom Toohey already very thoroughly destroyed. In the end, Roark manages to get the jury to find him not guilty, so he does not go to prison and Toohey is denied seeing him suffer - though by the end of the book, Toohey remains at large and concentrating as ever on his wider aim of taking over the world.

** In ''ComicBook/TheGreatPhantomPeril'', Faora's calculated and brutal poking of Superman's pressure points leaves his body paralyzed, but instead of striking the coup of grace she drags Superman around while going on about how great of a martial artist she is and how skillfully she manipulated gullible Mr. Porter into releasing her. For when she finally decides to give the killing blow, Superman's paralysis has worn off.

* In ''Creator/AynRand'''s The Fountainhead, the villain Ellsworth Toohey engages in a villain's gloating, fitting all the standard criteria. He describes in detail how he is going to take over the world and what a terrible place he is going to make of it, and emphasizes that he is not doing it for any personal benefit but is doing Evil for The Sake of Evil.

* The ''TabletopGame/DiscworldRolePlayingGame'' enforces this trope by offering dark lord characters their own Code of Honour disadvantage -- which includes the rule "if your enemies are defeated and helpless, engage in some token gloating and then ignore them while you get on with important matters". Note that, on the Discworld, NarrativeCausality ensures that villains who act this way are generally guaranteed to survive their many defeats, in an equally stereotyped way -- and the game supports this too.
