* "''Film/DieHard'' is the best Christmas movie!" was originally a fringe joke about how the film may [[AnAssKickingChristmas technically qualify as one]] (given how [[DidIMentionItsChristmas it takes place during Christmas Eve]]), but as it became a ubiquitous go-to "unconventional" answer and [[SeriousBusiness people started to seriously argue over whether it legitimately was a "Christmas movie"]], the backlash of it being unfunny and overdone has only grown. Even the movie's star, Creator/BruceWillis, [[https://ew.com/movies/2018/07/15/bruce-willis-die-hard-not-christmas-movie/ firmly stated in 2018]] that it's ''not'' a Christmas movie in response to the joke.

* ''Videogame/{{Pikmin}}'':
** As mentioned below in the Web Original, references to Steve the Trooper from LetsPlay/{{Chuggaaconroy}}'s Let's Play of the game isn't actively encouraged within the fandom nowadays, as the constant references to the infamous Red Leaf Pikmin [[FanMyopia became irritating for players who weren't familiar with the LP]]. As such, most references to Steve tend to be within LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys and affiliated gamers' fandoms, with references made outside those circles highly discouraged.
** Early on in ''Videogame/Pikmin4'''s life cycle, people began to joke that Moss, the green CanineCompanion Captain Olimar adopts during the game, was homophobic due to her default facial expression having a squinty, judgemental look. This meme died a very swift death after actual homophobes started to use it unironically, and further disappeared after players realized that Moss herself is a fairly nice dog in-universe.

Any {{meme|ticMutation}} that has [[CondemnedByHistory fallen out of favor with pop culture]], or at least the segment it was popular in. Either the meme was simply forgotten over time, it was one of many AdvertisingCampaigns that got discontinued, it was associated with something that [[ValuesDissonance fell victim to changing politics]] or someone who had a RoleEndingMisdemeanor, it was a CatchPhrase that got [[OverusedRunningGag repeated too much]], it was associated to the plot of a work that got outdated by new releases, or something else.

* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'': The Vaporeon copypasta[[note]]A copypasta stemming from [[Website/FourChan 4chan's /vp/ board]] which details how Vaporeon is the perfect Pokémon to have sex with[[/note]] was widely spammed for a while, but quickly fell into being disliked by the fandom, with a large amount of fans seeing it as too {{squick}}y to be funny or [[BestialityIsDepraved emblematic of the worst aspects of the fanbase.]] It's especially disliked by players who were fans of Vaporeon to begin with, since one of their favorite Pokémon is now [[NeverLiveItDown forever associated]] with it.

* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLi5B0Iefsk Christopher Knight's first ad]] when he went for school board (for the Rockingham County Board of Education in 2006) became viral for the wrong reason. A week and a half after the ad aired, he made a more serious [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzrSjKYmLeM "library talk"]] and then [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLl99oidfkg an ad he was proud of]] a week before election rolled in (he only placed at 8th out of 16).

Still, this being [=YouTube=], most comments on his videos relate to Steve in some way. When ''VideoGame/Pikmin3'' was announced and all the trailers were flooded with "Steve" comments, this actually caused a large amount of ire to be turned on Chuggaa, despite his attempts to make the joke die.

** The 20 Minute [=YouTube=] Poop Challenge creators consider "Dirty Percy" to be this. It started in Round 3 when they pooped the ''WesternAnimation/ThomasTheTankEngine'' episode "Thomas, Percy and the Squeak," with the scene where Percy complains about being called "Dirty Percy" becoming a RunningGag. However, it quickly became overused to the point of annoyance The joke disappeared after Round 11 and when it returned in Round 22, a counter that read "Rounds Without a Dirty Percy Joke" resets to 0. The gag stopped after that. They also limit "The Station Joke" (referring to Gordon's crash in "A Better View For Gordon") in order to keep it from becoming this.

** Similarly, in ''ComicBook/TheTransformersAllHailMegatron'', Optimus Prime tries to use his oft-repeated catchphrase "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings", but Megatron cuts him off with an "Oh, ''[[ShutUpKirk shut up."]]''

Eventually, the entire [=YTP=] community detested and dunked on the Brain Drain jokes as a whole, and eventually became nonexistent in poops proceeding Cam's exposure.

In the same video, he says he'll reveal said comment on January 31st, but it was revealed on January 14th instead as "The Waffle House Has Found Its New Host" after support from the previous video. He told the viewers only to spam the comment until January 31st, and it worked, as the meme became discredited since February, [[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/the-waffle-house-has-found-its-new-host--2 having its search interest go down to about 12% of what it was in the previous month]].

Two months later, the joke was declared dead by [[WebVideo/{{Seinfeldspitstain}} the author]] when [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsj_CE587vU a sequel]] was uploaded where WesternAnimation/JimmyNeutron[=/=]Nutrin is lying in a grave surrounded by characters, ending with the camera flying backwards and revealing that Jimmy is being buried in the "Dead Joke Cemetery". Even the Facebook page [[https://www.facebook.com/pages/Why-helo-it-is-i-jimbles-notronbo/494347110602837 Why helo it is i jimbles notronbo]] is tired of it after having the video repeatedly posted onto their page.

** Equally, Volume 9 had [[spoiler:Ruby's breakdown]] be ran into the ground by the first day, especially the part where [[spoiler:Ruby sarcastically congratulates Yang and Blake over becoming an OfficialCouple while ignoring her problems]] due to the more intolerant people using it to attack the fanbase and/or the creators.

** "Well ''that'' happened!" had become a go-to phrase used by detractors of the MCU to mock the constantly jokey and insincere dialogue in the films that they felt became more prevalent in Phase 4. It eventually died down when even the detractors noticed that no Marvel film has downplayed it's own stakes to the degree implied by the gag, and when many people discovered that the phrase actually originates from Creator/DavidMamet's critically acclaimed and award winning film Film/StateAndMain and actually ''is'' used to turn a serious and tense moment into a joke.

* WebAnimation/YouTubePoop artist Creator/DurhamRockerZ posted "Hank of the Hill" which had a running gag of [[WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill Hank Hill]] saying "[[InherentlyFunnyWords Boggle!?]]" in a confused voice. [=DurhamRockerZ=] got so tired of being spammed with constant "Boggle!?" comments on his videos that he stopped making references to the gag.
