* Happens in ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'' when Garnet splits into [[HotBlooded Ruby]] and [[TheStoic Sapphire]] after arguing over how to deal with their anger at Pearl, with Sapphire opting to keep her cool ([[AnIcePerson literally]]) and be rational about it, which Ruby misinterprets as her not caring at all. She eventually admonishes Ruby for thinking she doesn't feel upset, but unlike most examples, [[JerkassRealization Sapphire realizes her own stoicism is partially to blame for Ruby's inconsiderate behavior]].

* ''Series/OnceUponATime'': The closed-off [[BrokenBird Emma]] eventually opens up to Graham. Also, at one point in the Enchanted Forest, Rumplestiltskin was talking to Charming about the power of True Love and Charming dismissively asked what ''he'' could possibly know about True Love. Rumplestiltskin irritably replies, "Not so much as you, perhaps, but not so little as you might think." (Referring to his role as the Beast in [[Disney/BeautyAndTheBeast Belle's]] story.)

* ''FanFic/HerInnerDemons'': The Shadowbolts ask Sci-Twilight why she, [[ShrinkingViolet of all people]], [[spoiler: transformed into demon, despite not being evil]]. She points out she was indeed thinking very angry and vindictive thoughts about them due to their bullying, to their shock and regret.

* ''Fanfic/AdviceAndTrust'': After Shinji and Asuka talked Rei into ditching her emotion-numbing medication, she often wonders angrily why the Commander did this to her. When he is lecturing her after [[spoiler:the battle against Bardiel,]] reminding her that she must obey any and all his orders and only his orders to the letter or there will be "consequences" she keeps a cool mask as she resents each word he spouts, thinking she had always been loyal and he had used her like a puppet, and saying herself she will not allow him hurt her friends.

Alice can be of any gender, but as a character there are a lot of types that fit: The NiceGuy, TheStoic, ExtremeDoormat, TheCutie, CloudCuckooLander (though they may be Bobby if they are very inconsiderate). Bob may be HotBlooded, HorribleJudgeOfCharacter, or ObliviousToLove. One common variant is for Alice to be an outsider other [[KidsAreCruel kids pick on]], dehumanizing her until she snaps with the above.

* One of the main plot points, not to mention some serious CharacterDevelopment in ''WesternAnimation/RecessSchoolsOut'', when Principal Prickley, after enduring an entire series worth of scorn and mockery from T.J and his friends finally stands up and tells him point blank that, as distant and abstract as it may seem to him, Prickley and every other adult "villain" TJ has ever tormented were kids at one point, and knows exactly what it feels like to be one. Prickley may seem like an uncaring, spiteful old man to him, but the principal was once a kid too, who lived for summer vacation, so never tell him that he doesn't care about it.

* [[TheProtagonist John]] from ''Literature/IAmNotASerialKiller'' is normally a DeadpanSnarker whose emotional responses are fairly subdued, what with him being a [[SociopathicHero sociopath]] and everything. However, when his mother pushes him a bit too far, he finally snaps, and almost crosses the MoralEventHorizon.

* Anne Lister, the heroine of ''Series/GentlemanJack'', is normally unflappable and impossibly confident, but when her lover Ann Walker ends their relationship and claims [[DeliberateValuesDissonance it's sinful and wrong]], she's on the edge of tears if she asks if Miss Lister ''ever'' considered that she might have feelings, too.

* In ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', most of the Mane Six were put off by their expectation to make friends with Pinkie Pie's older sister Maud. While friendly, they weren't sure what to make of Maud being a [[TheStoic Stoic]] on the level of Mr. Spock and interpreted her lack of perceived emotion as her blowing them off. By the end of the episode, the group are perfectly polite and friendly to Maud, though Pinkie has to explain to them that Maud has been uncharacteristically excited through the whole episode.

* In the ''WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil'' episode "Jannanigans", when the other characters are convinced that [[TheGadfly Janna]] is refusing to take a universe-threatening problem seriously, they all start yelling at her to divulge the information they've been asking for. She angrily tells them once again that [[CassandraTruth she hasn't been lying]] about her lack of memory considering said info, before admitting that the fact she doesn't remember at all what occurred that day absolutely terrifies her, and that she really is doing her best to recall this information. The others apologize, with her usual prank target Marco adding on that he wasn't aware she could feel human emotions, to which Janna replies that she thought the same.

* {{Subverted}} in ''Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown.'' Charlie Brown is desperate to get a Valentine, since he never has before, but when the cards are handed out at school absolutely nobody gets him one. The next day, some of the girls come by and Violet offers him one that somebody else gave her. In a way it's even more depressing that Schroeder has to be offended on Charlie Brown's behalf.

* In ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda2,'' Tigress reveals that part of her [[TrainingFromHell kung fu training]] involved punching ironwood trees, so now she "feels nothing." Po is awed and calls this "hardcore." He immediately assumes that she can't feel emotional pain either, which shocks her, but she's interrupted before she can correct him. Later in the movie, when Po persists in trying to confront [[BigBad Lord Shen]] despite his [[HeroicBSOD freezing up]] when facing him, Tigress angrily tells him to stay behind. Po finally caves in and explains why he wants to go: [[spoiler: he remembers that Lord Shen was there when Po's birth parents died, and Po wants answers about what happened that day since he was a baby at the time]].

* In ''Film/BowlingForColumbine'', Music/MarilynManson states that this is what he believes is the reason the [[UsefulNotes/{{Columbine}} Columbine massacre]] happened. He believes that the killers behind the tragedy did what they did because the felt marginalized and no one would listen. The same also holds for his case whether he knows it or not, since MoralGuardians saw him as an angry and hateful man who promoted violence. [[SmarterThanTheyLook He proved to be anything but]].

* Has occurred numerous times in StarTrek. Vulcan philosophy is the Control of Emotion, not the lack of emotion. Most notably in the book ''Spock's World'', where this is said almost word for word by Sarek to his wife.

* In ''LightNovel/WhenSupernaturalBattlesBecameCommonplace'', [[spoiler:after politely taking Andou's "You wouldn't understand" remarks for a long time, Hatoko finally tears into him and lets him know that not understanding him is what makes her so frustrated at him.]]

However Rei had developed feelings towards Shinji, and due to those feelings she was becoming very protective of his family. Hence, she stepping aside would simply not happen. He should have foreseen it but he was genuinely shocked when she struck him.

* ''Fanfic/{{HERZ}}'': Gendo [[spoiler:ordered Rei taking him to Lilith to start off the Third Impact, expecting she behaved like his obedient, well-indoctrinated puppet. However Rei had fallen in for Shinji, and as Gendo talked, she could feel Shinji’s angst and despair at being unable to save Asuka. So that she rejected Gendo –to his astonishment- and flew to help Shinji to defeat the enemy and protect Asuka.]]

* In ''Fanfic/PonyPOVSeries'', [[TopGod Havoc]] has a few moments as this. Being the AnthropomorphicPersonification of Fear, and one of the four strongest beings in all creation, few ever give how he feels thought other than not wanting to tick him off. Despite this a few times it's made ''very'' clear that despite not showing it, he's heartbroken at the loss of two of his suns, and the few ponies who have actually given him condolences genuinely touched him.

* ''Fanfic/ACrownOfStars'': Winthrop and later Jinnai used Asuka as their plaything for years. They did never think their toy could resent or hate having to choose between getting virtually raped and getting shot. When she helped to overthrow Winthrop he was shocked and incredulous because he could not believe she was turning on him and his first thought was she had found a warmer bed. Later Jinnai did not hesitate on informing Shinji and Asuka that they would be useless and replaceable to him very soon, never thinking they might turn on him. And when [[spoiler:he heard she was bedding Shinji]] he was actually affronted and offended because he could not believe she would rather sleeping with other person.
