A staple of the CriminalProcedural when the writers want to create a "This Time, ItsPersonal" episode. Pretty much ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: a criminal kills a cop, whether on or off duty, and the dead officer's colleagues, perhaps one in particular, go all-out to find the killer. These episodes frequently end with PoliceBrutality, as cop-killing is a rather serious business. When the cops find the cop killer, they don't treat him very well. Not to mention that they're more likely to have [[MakeItLookLikeAnAccident "accidents"]] or [[NeverSuicide "commit suicide"]] at some point between arrest, trial, and imprisonment. Conversely, a CopKiller will likely be [[VillainCred regarded as particularly notorious by fellow criminals]]. See also ArtisticLicenseLawEnforcement.

* In ''ComicBook/TexWiller'', bandits that have killed a sheriff, a marshal, or, heaven forbids, a Texas Ranger are considered especially dangerous... And treated with extreme prejudice. The best example is in "Towards Oregon", where the quarry is a man who has gunned down a Texas Ranger in broad daylight and with no apparent reason... And ''every single Texas Ranger gets on his case'', working to find out any and all information about him so that Tex and Carson, the two who are materially chasing him, have an easier time hunting him down and either dragging him back to Texas to be tried and hanged or gun him down trying.

* ''Film/LeonTheProfessional'': Leon walks into a DEA office and kills every DirtyCop present, then later makes mincemeat out of several more cops when they show up at his apartment with a SWAT team. At that point the police are no longer screwing around, [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill sending basically the entire NYPD after him]].

'''Benny:''' What do you mean "everyone"?\\
'''Stansfield:''' EVE-RY-ONE!!!

* In ''Film/NewPoliceStory'', Chan Kwok Wing hunts down a group of heavily armed robbers who don't give a second thought about gunning down police officers. The main bad guy, Joe, is motivated to do this [[spoiler:because he was physically abused as a child by his police officer father, who had gained a high-ranking position by the time the movie begins.]]
