He's hoping to eventually get it fixed and return to Heaven, but as the story goes on he grows worried that it will never heal and he'll be stuck in the mortal realm for the rest of his life, even if he's found it's not as bad as he initially thought it would be.

This is due to her giving herself a PokeInTheThirdEye in order to escape [[ForgotAboutTheMindReader the fear]] [[AMindIsATerribleThingToRead and hatred]] other beings felt for her due to her ability.
* In ''Videogame/{{Drakengard2}}'', the once mighty red Dragon Angelus from ''Videogame/{{Drakengard}}'' is trapped in unbearable agony after Verdelet made her seal even more powerful.
* In ''Videogame/{{Drakengard3}}'', Michael is the strongest Dragon. He is slain in the prologue by the Demon Dragon Gabriel [[spoiler:who is also arguably an example since it is the dragon Gabriella who sacrificed her own mind and even her gender to become a demonic abomination that could take on Michael]]. Michael's reincarnation Mikhael is a tremendous disappointment to Zero since he lacks Michael's maturity and power. It takes the rest of the game for Mikhael to regain the power he once possessed as Michael [[spoiler:and in the end he is left ''emotionally'' broken instead as he is forced to kill his mother figure Zero.]]

** UpToEleven in the penultimate dungeon, [[spoiler:the Crypt of Dead Gods. The Nameless God has been usurping the roles of every deity in history, locking them in the Crypt of Dead Gods and exploiting GodsNeedPrayerBadly by intercepting and answering their prayers in their place in order to starve them to death. You cannot find most of them, what with them having decayed to very little, but The Three, ''those'' Three that are the newest gods (possibly even ''your'' gods), have been killed recently enough that their mindless corpses will assault you in their sorry state. Deities reduced to shambling horrors is a long way to fall, in terms of this trope]].

* In ''WebComic/TheOrderOfTheStick'', Odin, god of magic and TopGod of the Northern Pantheon, is [[http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots1145.html revealed]] to be suffering from a form of brain damage. In the previous instance of the world, the people of the [[GrimUpNorth Northern lands]] were barbarians who [[DoesNotLikeMagic disregarded magic as being for idiots]]. As gods are [[GodsNeedPrayerBadly shaped by how mortals imagine them]], this reduced Odin to a barely lucid {{Cloudcuckoolander}}. Now that mortals believe in him again, however, it's thought that he'll recover within a few centuries.

* In ''TabletopGame/{{Shadowrun}}'', adding cybernetics or modified organs to your body reduces your "Essence" by an amount based on how invasive or alien the part is, and losing essence also causes characters with Magical abilities to decrease their Magic by the same amount (or more, if they only lose part of a point). A magician whose Magic drops to zero due to this becomes "burnt out" - they no longer have access to magical abilities, any magic skills they have become strictly academic knowledge, and they can never regain them aside from extremely rare plot devices or getting a bug spirit shoved into their body (which is at least as bad as it sounds and might well destroy them utterly). The same happens to Technomancers whose Resonance drops to zero.
* In ''Burning Empires'', [[TelepathicSpacemen Psychologists]] have their talents destroyed when a [[PuppeteerParasite Vaylen]] infests their brain, though that's [[AndIMustScream arguably the least of their worries...]]
* ''TabletopGame/{{Exalted}}'' has the Demon Realm of Malfeas. Its creation is what happens when you do this to a couple dozen [[EldritchAbomination world making titans]], turn them inside out, and stuff them inside of one another in a recursive nightmare. Each defeated Primordial was ritually mutilated by having a [[AnatomyOfTheSoul component soul]] destroyed. Many [[OurDemonsAreDifferent demons]] (who are their remaining component souls) also have a distinct impression of this trope.

* The Emperor of Mankind from ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}}''. In his prime he was a glorious golden-armored paragon of intellect and might. After being mortally wounded and placed in the Golden Throne, he is now a sick immobile old man on (slowly failing) life support. His soul is in even worse shape, being hopelessly fragmented. The Chaos Space Marines also fit this to a lesser extent. Space Marines are technically enhanced humans, but they are also considered angels to the Imperium. The Chaos Space Marines are the Space Marines who gave in to their base selfish desires and surrendered themselves to Chaos. For many of them, giving themselves to Chaos has forever scarred their spirits and their flesh. Nurgle's Plague Marines are walking blights, living mockeries of the Emperor's BadassBoast that "no disease shall touch them". And they are still better off than the Rubric Marines of the Thousand Sons, who are nothing but living dust animating their PoweredArmor. The Chaos Space Marines are still powerful warriors but whatever glory they once possessed is long gone.
** The traitor Primarches even more so. Once considered among the greatest of humanity's warriors, whether out of [[ParentalIssues personal]] [[TheUnfavorite issues]] or [[UnwittingPawn events beyond their control]], they turned against the Imperium and became the very antithesis of what they were fighting for. Some of the best examples include [[TheAce Fulgrim]] - whose desire to [[ThePerfectionist embody the best traits of a warrior]] ultimately consumed him; [[TheBerserker Angron]] - whose mind was irreparably damaged and would have died of mental degradation had he not ascended to a daemon prince; and of course [[TheParagon Horus]] - whose {{Pride}} [[WellIntentionedExtremist and belief he was doing the right thing]] ultimately led him to lead the traitor Legions against the Imperium and [[SelfFulfillingProphecy created the very future he sought to avoid]]. There's also [[VigilanteMan Konrad Curze]], who became more physically and mentally unstable to the point of having a split personality and became such a shell-shocked, fatalistic, and self-loathing mess that he didn't even try to resist when an assassin tracked him down.
** The only Loyalist Primarch who isn't missing or dead (or both) isn't much better off. Roboute Guilliman was stabbed in the throat with a poisoned sword in a duel with Fulgrim. He was quickly entombed in a stasis field and enshrined on Macragge, where he has been trapped in a state of living death for 10,000 years and counting. Some pilgrims claim that his wounds are slowly healing despite the impossibility of anything changing in a stasis field. [[spoiler:As of Eighth Edition, he's been freed. He still counts as broken on multiple levels. His new armor is heavily implied to be life support keeping him alive and he is devastated by how badly the Imperium has degenerated in ten thousand years.]]
