Lucky Luke is a character created by Morris in 1946 for the French comic magazine Pilote. Morris wrote and drew the series single-handedly until 1955, after which he started collaborating with French writer Creator/ReneGoscinny, until Goscinny's death in 1977.

The series takes place in the American Old West of the United States and it stars the titular character, a street-smart gunslinger known as the "man who shoots faster than his shadow". Accompanied by his intelligent horse Jolly Jumper, and sometimes by Rantanplan, "the world's stupidest dog", Lucky Luke faces various villains, either fictional or inspired by American history or folklore, with the most famous of these being the Dalton Brothers, loosely based on the Dalton Gang of the early 1890s.
