* PragmaticAdaptation: Venom is only marginally bulkier than Spider-Man, rather than the hulking brute he is in the comics, since he's played by an actor in an actual costume instead of being portrayed through motion capture CGI like in his [[Film/Venom2018 next appearance]]. He also spends a ''lot'' of time "unmasked," presumably to save money on CGI in an already VFX-heavy movie.

** As a result this also applies to Venom - in the comics, he started off as an obsessive nemesis toward Spider-Man, willing to do everything in his power to humiliate him over ruining his life, but then slowly got over it and developed into a NobleDemon NinetiesAntiHero, something that [[Film/Venom2018 the next film to feature him will follow through with]]. In ''this'' film, Venom outright states that he loves being evil, terrorizing citizens [[spoiler:and killing Harry just to fuck with Peter.]]

* MisplacedRetribution: Harry still thinks that Spider-Man killed his father, became the New Goblin and tried to kill his best friend Peter Parker after finding out about his identity as Spider-Man. All of this was futile since his father was killed by his own glider and Peter had nothing to do with it.

* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: ZigZagged. Once Peter embraces the power and personality changes the symbiote brings, Peter acts more like a bad boy and clearly ''thinks'' that he's God's gift to women, but the various looks of exasperation and even disgust he gets from most of the women he encounters tell a very different story—probably because, contrary to expectations, he's still a clueless geek, only now that he's "evil" he's an obnoxious and arrogant one with only a superficial understanding of what people would perceive as cool. However he is shown to have success with charming some woman, but only because they were previously attracted to his normal good personality, with the symbiote simply giving him the confidence to act on that attraction to ask Gwen out and get the attention of Ursula and Betty.

* ChestInsignia: Spider-Man gets a new symbol with the black suit that looks like a more aggressive version of his standard symbol. Venom later has his iconic wraparound symbol from the comics, though it's gray instead of white.

Added DiffLines:

* TruerToTheText: Venom's design harkens back to [[https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/s/CmJGdiZtIF his first appearance]] in the comics, where he looked like a buffer version of black-suit Spider-Man with an evil, toothy grin, instead of a snarling behemoth with a dragonesque tongue he would become better known as. He still retains the giant wraparound spider ChestInsignia.

* AdaptationalCurves: Inverted. Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) is nowhere near as buff as the comics version, who was already a dedicated bodybuilder before he joined with the ComicBook/{{Venom}} symbiote. This was to make Eddie more clearly an EvilCounterpart to Peter Parker himself.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:Upset with Peter kissing Gwen (as Spider-Man) and pushing her away to focus on Uncle Ben's murderer, Mary Jane goes to see amnesiac Harry, who still has feelings for her (and presumably no memory of their break-up). In the heat of the moment, the two briefly kiss. But immediately, Mary Jane realizes her mistake and leaves. * TapOnTheHead: DoubleSubverted. Peter seems genuinely concerned when Harry accidentally hits himself on the head and loses consciousness, even going as far as to take him to the hospital, but Harry merely gets amnesia.
