* A helicopter's rotors weigh ''over 500 lbs.'' There is no way Jason Statham, even with all his buffness and strength, could have possibly picked it up and maneuvered it so the [[spoiler: alpha Meg impales itself.]] The only way it would ever happen is if he was a trained bodybuilder.

* RealityIsRealistic: While the opening scene in the prehistoric past where the Megalodon leaps out of the water to grab a ''Tyrannosaurus Rex'' may seem like an example of pure Hollywood spectacle inspired by the ''Mosasaurus'' killing the ''Indominus Rex'' in ''Film/JurassicWorld'' with zero basis in the real world, however in reality this act of a large aquatic predator throwing itself onto land to grab its prey actually does occur in the natural world, ''Orcas'' (Killer Whales) will hunt in a very similar manner by deliberately [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E1dg9pVQp3M beaching themselves in order to catch sea lions]].

Added DiffLines:

** [[spoiler: And Suyin for that matter. It is ''incredibly'' jarring if you have never seen either film and watch them back to back; Suyin's abrupt death is a huge MoodWhiplash for the series and it's strange they didn't just have her on a mission where she couldn't pull away as the actress didn't turn down the role, but was taking time off for mental health. Meiying also doesn't react like a small child who recently lost her mother; she acts as if it's a non-issue and seems way too chipper around Jonas considering she lost her mother ''and'' her grandfather not too long ago.]]

Added DiffLines:

* PlotHole: Why in God's name was there a Meg sized hole in her enclosure? Even if that's how they got her inside the enclosure, a single metal grate?! That's what they thought would prevent her from leaving? It should've been filled in with cement or reinforced a thousand times over. Plus, if it was that easy to leave her enclosure, ''why the hell didn't she do it sooner''? And how was there no surveillance or any alarms related to her leaving the enclosure?
** There is another, smaller plothole too, but it does at least have a RuleOfScary to explain it: when Jiuming is testing the meg's loyalty to him, at one point they all ask where it is. It was introduced earlier in the scene that she has a tracker on and they have radar and other observational equipment other than trying to see where she is in the tank by naked eye. The only reason nobody simply glances at a screen to see where she is happens to be for the cheap jumpscare they're building towards.

* MisplacedWildlife: Aside from the sequel carrying on the premise from the first movie that Megalodon have survived into the 21st century, the opening prologue set 65 million years ago is clearly playing for RuleOfCool with a [[AlwaysABiggerFish Meg shown hunting a T. Rex]] due to the fact that these two species never coexisted. UsefulNotes/TyrannosaurusRex along with all other non-avian dinosaurs went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period 43 million years before Megalodon occupied the earth. * IdiotBall: Basically gets passed around the entire cast like an active-hand-grenade game of Hot Potato, but one notable example is Montes responding to the main characters showing up by triggering his team's mining charges prematurely. All this accomplishes is killing his own men and ''drawing the cast's attention''. If he'd waited, they would likely have dismissed his sub as a radar error and left of their own volition.

Jonas' BatmanColdOpen in this film shows he has spent the years in between films chasing after these kind of criminals to expose them, with him obtaining evidence of people planning to dump nuclear waste on international waters. ** Keeping a megalodon in captivity. [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_white_shark#In_captivity Great white sharks]] have ''barely'' been kept in captivity, and never for very long before the animal's health significantly deteriorated. Great whites often refuse to eat while caged, and they're used to swimming free in the open ocean; nearly any enclosure it would be feasible to design and build would be too small for an adult great white to have sufficient room. Assuming megalodons are as behaviorally similar to great whites as they are structurally similar, a megalodon would die in captivity in short order, either starving or injuring itself against its containment barriers.

* ChekhovsGun:
** Downplayed with DJ's pistol with poisoned bullets. One would think it would see some sort of use against the sharks, but never does. It does, however, save Meiying from one of the marine reptiles at the end.
** Strongly averted with Jiuming's signalling device, despite being introduced very early in the film. It ''never'' seems to work properly on Haiqi, even during the climax where it has him, Jonas and Mac at its mercy, and it's left to the viewer's interpretation as to whether he's just lucky or there are other factors at play.

** The Tyrannosaurus Rex seen in the opening sequence is a dead ringer for the T-Rexes from Franchise/JurassicPark, right down to the color scheme. The Megalodon breaching up behind it and dragging it down into the depths is a rather obvious riff on the Indominus' death scene in ''Film/JurassicWorld''. There are other references to ''Jurassic Park'' as well, particularly the Snapper attack on Montes and his mercenaries being reminiscent of the raptors hunting Muldoon, and the treacherous human villain being EatenAlive in their getaway vehicle.
