* FreudianExcuse: [=McGiggles=] put a lot of work into becoming an actor, only to be stuck as the host of a children's television show. Developing a hatred of kids, and sleeping with their mothers to get back at them as a result.

* WouldntHurtAChild: The commander of the United States forces [[spoiler:who can't bring himself to [[QuarantineWithExtremePrejudice enforce the quarantine]] when he discovers the group approaching the perimeter contains a number of children.]]

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: We never find out what happened to the one Chinese tourist who avoided being eaten or infected.

* Manchild: Dave isn't the most mature guy, though he improves over the course of the film.

Eventually, her obsession grew to the point that she [[StalkerWithACrush broke into their hotel room to get close to them.]] After getting caught, she breaks her clavacal in the escape, and, her family having disowned her for her obsession, she begins working at Felix's school to earn money to pay off her medical bills. Through this, she discovered her love for teaching.]]
* DepravedKidsShowHost: [=McGiggles=] turns out to be an alcoholic sex addict who mainly uses his gig to bang the mothers of children (and he hates children).

* DidntThinkThisThrough: [=McGiggles=] [[spoiler:infects himself by biting the face off a zombie kid. Which he realizes [[OhCrap moments later]].]]

* GenreShift: The opening half an hour or so of the film is mostly a straight-up vulgar comedy centering on Dave that begins to drift towards rom-com when Miss Caroline is introduced before finally reaching its true genre of horror-comedy when the zombies show up at the petting zoo.

* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler:The military successfully contains the zombie outbreak at the zoo, but not without most of the visitors and animals either getting eaten by zombies or killed by the military...
