A couple of youngsters forge a note of a relatively large denomination (500 francs) and pay with it for a small purchase running away with their change. Then the bill changes hands as the receivers prefer not to report it but rather rid of it giving it to another gullible man and returning their money. It arrives to Yvon, the protagonist who also tries to pay with it but is caught at the act. He loses his job and from then it all goes downhill for him.
