At the beginning she uses them to show off due to be a lonely, affection-starved child, but she slowly realizes having huge powers entails huge responsibility, and everybody expects her being a beacon of morality and courage. Not wanting to get anybody disappointed she starts out the path to become a true hero as she thinks her biological father would have been.

Several years later Asuka's mother goes to STAR Labs to get an in vitro fertilization and she unknowingly gets one of her eggs fertilized with Kryptonian DNA. Asuka never knew who her biological father was, but she assumed he was someone extraordinary. She had no idea how right she was until her powers begin surfacing. At the beginning she uses them to show off due to be a lonely, affection-starved child, but she slowly realizes having huge powers entails huge responsibility, and everybody expects her being a beacon of morality and courage. Not wanting to get anybody disappointed she starts out the path to become a true hero as she thinks her biological father would have been.
