Drew doesn't at all mind this though.]]

* BackForTheFinale: After spending a sizable amount of time out of focus throughout a large portion of the story, Adrian, Colette, Nikolai, and Kyle all take on prominent roles once more in time for the final four episodes of the story.

** Drew and Cynthia hook up over the course of 'Phase 2'.

* EscapedAnimalRampage: Happens multiple times, with one especially notable instance being when all the carnivorous dinosaurs engage in a mass breakout during ''Nightmare Labyrinthine''.

** Percival von Grimm has so far only appeared at least thrice in the whole story. [[spoiler: Turns out, he's the story's big bad and is responsible for setting up a dinosaur trafficking operation while also hiring a security guard named Duncan to serve as his mole.]]

* BackForTheFinale: After spending a sizable amount of time out of focus throughout a large portion of the story, Adrian, Nikolai, and Kyle all take on prominent roles once more in time for the final three episodes of the story.

* DeviousDolphins: Whilst not technically dolphins, the territorial cymbospondylus encountered in ''Degrees of Greatness'' sort of qualify by virtue of being ichthyosaurs.
* DoubleMeaningTitle: "The First Steps" both refers to the creatures of the story being the first creatures to go onto land and the first steps towards Leon taking a level in badass.

* EatenAlive: Thanatos the liopleurodon subjects one of the villainous Novum black-ops agents to this fate.

* {{Deuteragonist}}: So far, Leon. Jack serves as the Tritagonist.

* BearsAreBadNews: An entire sleuth's worth of cave bears get rescued for the park. The last one rescued in particular proves especially dangerous over the course of its rescue.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Ed the Novum black-ops agent ends up eaten by Thanatos after a failed attempt at taking out Nikolai.

* KnowWhenToFoldEm: The phorusrhacos manage, unlike in Prehistoric Park, to actually put up a decent fight against the female smilodons trying to steal their kill. And in the end, only the arrival of Broken-Fang (aka. Half Tooth) is enough to convince them to reluctantly give up their kill.

* TentacledTerror: The cameroceras rescued in "Devils of the Deep" prove quite nightmarish in Drew and Jack's efforts at getting them through the portal. And as Jack will gladly tell you from his efforts at trying to prevent them from overfeeding themselves in "The First Steps", they are no less difficult to deal with at the park than they were in the wild.

* DeviousDolphins: Whilst not technically a dolphin, the territorial cymbospondylus encountered in ''Degrees of Greatness'' sort of qualifies by virtue of being an ichthyosaur.

* EyeScream: The first rescued cave bear is completely blind in one eye, and it is clearly through an injury to said eye.

** A lot of Phase Three revolves around Drew dealing with the PTSD he has sustained from being trapped in the Cretaceous; the very real thought of being permanently stranded in the past or dying in the K-T event severely taxed him mentally. It shows that the average, undisciplined civilian probably won't come out of a life-or-death situation completely unscathed.

* SparedByTheAdaptation: The adult female ''Postosuchus'', as Drew and Adrian scared off the ''Coelophysis'' and ''Liliensternus'' trying to eat her.

* RhinoRampage: A woolly rhino ends up briefly at risk of menacing a neanderthal before then getting goaded into charging at Drew and Leon (at which point it ends up rushing right through the portal).

* PantheraAwesome: Dinofelis and Smilodon are amongst the animals rescued and brought to the park.

* CruelElephant: An adult male deinotherium in musth proves to be a dangerous obstacle for Drew, Leon, and Jack over the course of their adventure in ''Anthropomorphous Apes''.

* EveryoneLovesBlondes: Leon and Jack certainly do; and perhaps so does Drew.

** It is explicitly noted that, despite looking like pigs, the entelodonts are more related to hippopotamuses.

* BadassBookworm: Drew is a zoologist by trade, but proves his badass credentials when dealing with some very dangerous prehistoric animals.

** The story refers to {{Megalodon}} as ''Otodus megalodon''. While the official name of ''megalodon'' has been in the air for a while, it was eventually decided to be ''Carcharocles megalodon'' about three years before it appeared in the story. This also isn't ScienceMarchesOn, because in ''Sea Monsters'', it was classified as ''Carcharodon megalodon''.

* HypotheticalCasting: Nathanoraptor has commented that he sees Creator/ScarlettJohansson as Linda Eberhart, Creator/IdrisElba as Kyle Taymor and Creator/DaisyRidley as Alice Denham. He's also quite partial to the idea of Ivana Baquero as Collete and Nicola Peltz as Yolanda. He has also found appeal in the idea of casting Creator/TomHolland as Leon Gilbertson and Tim Roth as Nikolai. He even managed to later agree to casting Charlie Heaton as Drew, Harry Shum Jr. as Adrian, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Jack, and Wil Traval as Khatin.

* DeathByAdaptation: [[spoiler:The resident mother ''Dimetrodon'' ends up succumbing to her injuries from fighting the challenger for her nesting site in ''The New Rulers'']]. The [[spoiler: elder of the two smilodon brothers]] also gets killed.

* PantheraAwesome: Dinofelis and smilodon are amongst the animals rescued and brought to the park.

** All of the theropods are given feathers; even the ones.

** The andrewsarchus are given hooves, and made to look somewhat more like carnivorous pigs then the 'leopard-hyena hybrids' (Nathanoraptor's own approximate words) that they were in Walking With Beasts.
