* JumpScare: In the EXE version, towards the end (and when you touch the smiley mushroom right next to the pipe (which is replaced by a red door in the SFC version)) a bunch of creepy images shows up. Those images however are about other media, some examples being ''Fanfic/SonicExe'' and Suicide Mouse.

* RiddleForTheAges: What was the deal with the mushroom with a weird face? The writer didn't dare to touch it, so we never find out. However, trying to touch said mushroom in the EXE version triggers a string of screamers, while in the ROM hack it simply makes you lose a life.

* SpringtimeForHitler: This fic's nature as a parody of creepypastas went unnoticed by most of the readerbase, and it instead became treated as a genuine creepypasta thanks to the sheer effort Slime Beast put into it.

* TearOffYourFace: More like ''Burn Off'' Your Face. After Luigi fell into lava, the ending art the writer sees now shows that all of his skin, right eye, and nose got melted off, leaving his reddened teeth exposed.

* AMoltenDateWithDeath: Luigi was [[NearVillainVictory close to beating Mario into the lava below them]]. Too bad Luigi celebrated too soon, as Mario turns the tables on him and pushes ''[[KarmicDeath him]]'' into the lava instead, though [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone Mario soon regrets doing so]]. Luigi can only helplessly utter "OH GOD NO" as he's firmly dipped in lava. What's even worse is that Luigi somehow ''survives this'', according to the new ending art the writer unlocked, though not without [[BodyHorror losing his skin, nose and his right eye in the process]].

* CheatCode: The first hallway in the secret level has an unavoidable Bleeding Bill; due to this, the narrator is forced to use a [[UsefulNotes/GameGenie Game Genie]] code that activates permanent invincibility. Averted in the ROM hack, which just has the invincibility activate at a certain point in the hallway.
* DarkFic: The creepypasta describes itself as a lost, secret level to ''Super Mario World'' that no one has ever found evidence of. It's full of blood, gore, and attempted murder.

* ShoutOut: In the boss chamber, a strange, ominous figure looms in one of the windows, overlooking the action. It's one of the mysterious "aliens" from the Shiverburn Galaxy in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'', which have also appeared in some other ''Mario'' games as Easter Eggs and prompted a ton of [[EpilepticTrees fan theories]].

* TrollFic: In an inversion of ParodyRetcon, the author claimed that they wrote it as a satire of video game creepypastas shortly after the story was initially released and praised. However, some ignored the author's claims and regarded it as a genuine creepypasta, with praise given to Slime Beast's sprites.
