The story starts with Angie talking about her nostalgic memories growing up on the Pokemon series alongside her brother. The two eventually got a [=GameShark=], and ended up ruining one of the games. While Angie immediately became aversive to any sort of hacking or cheating, her brother became curious, and started using it even more.
One day, Angie returns home to find her brother has apparently had a bout of insanity, and went on a rampage in which he destroyed some of his games, which ends up getting him sent to the psyche ward in the hospital. During a visit, Angie makes a promise to get rid of her brother’s remaining games and [=GameShark=]. As she heads home, Angie is overtaken by curiosity, and decides that she wants to know what set her brother off, suspecting it was related to his copy of Silver.
Once she arrives home, she finds the game and [=GameShark=], along with a notebook, with a list of codes. She finds a code that her brother tried to scribble out, but through a little ingenuity, she finds the code is named “Easter Egg - Snow on Mt. Silver”. She is hesitant for a while, but eventually caves in and decides to play the game.
Upon starting, Angie finds her brother’s character, Blake, on Mt. Silver, with heavy falling snow. Blake’s team consisting of level 100s that had modded moves. Angie notes their sprites look washed out and have less vigor, chalking it up to hacking. The same sprite edits applied to Blake.
Angie very quickly finds out that she can’t get Blake to leave, every method coming with a message about his inability to turn back. As she then decides to ascend the mountain, she finds Blake moves slowly, and there are no random encounters. Blake continues to slow down as the snow comes down more heavily.
As she continues, the game suddenly gives reports on the Pokemon in Blake’s party dying. Upon checking them, the sprites show their bodies in horrific shape, and revives don’t do anything for them. By the time Blake reaches the summit, only Typhlosion is still alive.
At the summit, Red is also missing, but the snow stops. In Red’s place is a Poke Ball, which Angie moves to collect. The Poke Ball contains a wild Celebi, who proceeds to use Perish Song directly on Blake, not even giving him a chance to send out his Typhlosion.
After this, Angie finds Blake in a cave, who has become heavily frostbitten, even losing a leg. She continues, which eventually leads to a chamber where Red is waiting. While Red has the frostbitten discolouration, he is otherwise intact. His team however, is a different story.
Red’s Pokemon have all been reduced to level 0, and are in similar frostbitten states to Blake’s own Pokemon. Every single one of them uses Struggle, before dying. Eventually, Red sends out his Pikachu, which instead uses Pain Split, killing itself and Blake’s Typhlosion.
Red reappears, now heavily mangled. At this point, Angie realises the truth, that both Red and Blake are dead, and the cave is some kind of horrific hell where the two now exist. At this point, Red declares that “It’s over”. An unidentified entity then uses Destiny Bond, upon which the game lets out a horrific screech that lasts for a few minutes.
After the horrific noise stops, Angie then grabs the game, [=GameShark=], and notebook, before throwing them out. Afterwards, Angie proceeds to check her copy of Pokemon Yellow, to make sure that everything is safe again, which it thankfully is.
While Angie continues to find her own Pokemon games to be a source of comfort, her brother gives up on the series for good.

Just realism with no surprises, dying of frostbite by itself isn't really shocking.
