Reg Varney, born Reginald Alfred Varney, (11 July 1916 -- 16 November 2008), was a British actor best known for playing Stan Butler in ''Series/OnTheBuses''.

His best-known role came in 1969 in ''On the Buses'' as Stan. Varney played the role in the entirety of the first six series and [[Film/OnTheBuses the three]] [[Film/MutinyOnTheBuses spin-off]] [[Film/HolidayOnTheBuses films]], but [[PutOnABus left the show halfway through Series 7]] in an attempt move on to films, however he only made one non-''Buses'' related film, ''The Best Pair of Legs in the Business''. He also starred in ''Down the 'Gate'', which wasn't a success.

He died of a chest infection at the age of 92.
